Blanch, NC – It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Mrs. Annie Mandeline Saunders Mitchell of 282 High Rock School Rd. Blanch, NC, who passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019 in the Alamance Caswell Hospice Home in Burlington, NC.
Annie Mandeline Saunders Mitchell was born in Caswell County, North Carolina on September 6, 1920 to Lurenda Jones Saunders and Charlie Henry Saunders. She was the oldest of their five children. She was the oldest grandchild of Sarah Lea Saunders and James Saunders and the granddaughter of Rosa Emma Lester Jones and Dr. Ernest Jones. She was raised in a supportive and loving family. She was married to Robert Maryland Mitchell in 1940. They were the proud parents of Ruth Lunetta, Tony Lane, Mae Tresca and Donald Bruce.
Madeline was a bright student, graduating from Caswell County Training ( High ) School in 1937. Her favorite subjects were music, drama, literature and an avid reader. She received her certification from the University of North Carolina Education System in Management and Food Nutrition. She retired from the Caswell County School System as a cafeteria manager of High Rock Elementary School.
Mandeline leaves loving memories to sons: Donald Bruce Mitchell ( Marion ), and Tony Lane Mitchell ( Vicki ) both of Blanch, NC; daughter, Mae Tresca Byrd ( Walter ) of Greensboro, NC; sisters, Ruby Saunders Hargrove - Monds and Edna Saunders Adams; brother, Charlie Junior Saunders; grandchildren, Avery (LeMona), Anita Foster, Jennifer Lane, Tyrone ( Stephanie ), Eric ( Tangela ), Steve Mitchell, Chad Knight, Janet Byrd Steele ( Carlus), Walter Jr. ( Kimberly ) and Patrick Byrd; great grandchildren, QuiAaja Royster, Keiarra and Jaylen Mitchell, Ja'Khi Dixon, Jessica, Taylor Nicole, Walter III, and Zachary Byrd; many nieces; nephews; cousins; in-laws and friends; a loving cousin, Marjorie Gwynn Lea and loyal friends, Joseph Foster ( Rebecca ).
