Danville, VA. - It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Mr. Arthur Anthony " Couchie " Blackwell of 114 Motley Ave. Danville, VA., who passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at his residence.
He was a native of Caswell County, NC the son of the late Thomas Albert Blackwell and Beatrice Mitchell Blackwell, born October 3, 1949. He was a member of Bibleway Church in Danville, VA and was an employee of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. before retirement.
Arthur was a veteran of the United States Navy, having received a honorable discharge.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Daniel Carson Blackwell, Jerry Keith Blackwell, and Carl Irvin Blackwell.
His survivors are one daughter, Nichole Marie Williamson of Leesburg, Georgia; one grandson, Artemus Ross Gwynn III; two sisters, Mary Francis of Clemmons, NC and Brenda Beebe (Scott) of Stafford, VA; one brother, Thomas Albert Blackwell of Ruffin, NC; one uncle, Roosevelt Blackwell of Norfolk, VA; one aunt, Zueleanor Sessoms of Virginia Beach, VA; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Due to the constraints of public gatherings during the COVID-19 outbreak a viewing will be Sunday, September 20, 2020 from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home with a limit of 10 people at a time. (Per CDC Guidelines: Facial Masks are required).
Funeral Services for Arthur Anthony " Couchie" Blackwell will be Monday, September 21, 2020, 2:00 pm in the Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home .
Interment will be in the Salisbury National Cemetery, 705 Hedrick Street, Salisbury, NC with military rites on Monday, September 28, 2020 at 9:00 am.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations may be made in Arthur's name to Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
