Curtis Bailey Stokes, Sr. Obituary

Pelham, NC -  It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mr. Curtis Bailey Stokes, Sr., of 145 Forest Drive Pelham, NC.

Mr. Curtis Bailey Stokes, Sr., a native of Caswell County, North Carolina was born on March 08, 1940. He was the eldest son to Mrs. Lossie Pearl Stokes Lea. He also had his upbringing by his grandparents, the late Frank Stokes and Flossie Holloway Stokes.

Curtis age 80, departed his earthly life, and on December 06, 2020 at Cone Health-Annie Penn Memorial Hospital, in Reidsville, North Carolina.

Curtis was baptized at Spirit Filled Holiness Church, in Danville, Virginia at the age of fifteen. He attended the local Caswell County public school systems. Curtis met and married in Holy Matrimony his beloved Shirley Mae Williams, on August 17, 1968. Unto their union were two sons, Curtis and Charles.

Curtis had a strong work ethic, where he never missed a day’s work at Chase Bag for those 29 years, until the company went out of business. He then worked and retired as a supervisor at FCR Plastics, Inc. in Reidsville, North Carolina. His favorite past-times were fishing, gardening, watching the “Washington” football team, listening to Marvin Gaye and Earth Wind & Fire. Curtis was called “Big Daddy” in the Pelham community, where he and his neighbors had developed a strong bond. Curtis will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

In addition to his grandparents, Curtis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Mae Stokes; one sister, Virginia Sue Harris; and one brother, William Timothy Lea.

Mr. Curtis Bailey Stokes, Sr., leaves to cherish his memories to his two sons and their families, Curtis Bailey Stokes, Jr., one child Curtis Matthew Stokes of Danville, VA; and Charles Fredrick Stokes (Wife femaryjo) six children Jaylen Tay’shawn Stokes, Saniyah Am’ei Stokes, and Tamia Brooks, all of Elpaso, TX; Charles Rae’kwon Stokes, and Kierra Mcgriff, both of Syracuse, NY, and Tameya Ma’shelle Artis Stokes of Reidsville, NC; His beloved mother Lossie Pearl Lea of Ruffin, NC, where he spend some quality time with prior to his passing; his three sisters, Nellie Williams (Ralph) of Charlotte, NC, Hester Toomer of Danville, VA, and Pat Henderson of Ruffin, NC; his three brothers, Jerry Lea (Beulah), Nelson “Ivan” Lea (Shelia) all of Reidsville, NC, and Roland Lea (Jacqueline) of Englewood, NJ; his two sisters-in-laws, Vanessa Staples (Richard) and Wanda Blackwell all of Danville, VA; his two brothers-in-laws, Eddie Joe Harris of Ruffin, NC, and Thomas “Tommie” Johnson (Olivia) of Danville, VA;  his boys and/or his special friends, Larry Nunnally and DL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

DUE TO THE CONSTRAINTS OF PUBLIC GATHERINGS DURING THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK

(PER CDC GUIDELINES:  FACIAL MASKS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL SERVICES).

A viewing will be Friday, December 11, 2020 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home with a limit of 10 people at a time.

Funeral Services for Mr. Curtis Bailey Stokes will be held privately due to COVID-19.

*Attendance at the funeral will be limited to fifty (50) individuals.*

*Attendees will be pre-determined by the family*.

Interment will follow in the Spirit Filled Holiness Church Cemetery, Danville, Virginia, 24541.
