Deacon James Albert Robertson, affectionately known as “Pete,” of 4340 Hodges Dairy Rd., Yanceyville, NC, peacefully transitioned from this life on August 20, 2024, at his residence. He was born on April 26, 1934, to the late Theodore Roosevelt Robertson and Zenoble Love Robertson.
Deacon James was a dedicated and hardworking employee of Cone Mills White Oak Plant in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he served for many years. He was a faithful member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church, where he devoted his time and talents in various capacities. He served as a Deacon, a previous Sunday School Superintendent, and a member of the male chorus. Deacon James was also known for his love of music, often playing the piano, and his passion for baseball.
James received his early education at Caswell County Training School, where he built the foundation for a life dedicated to faith, family, and community.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Patricia Ratliff Robertson, Deacon James was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Watlington; his sister, Emma Jean Walker; and four grandchildren, Tara Robertson, Shonta Robertson, Mario McClain, and Bryson Southern.
Deacon James leaves to honor and cherish his memory: five daughters, Mary Robertson of Yanceyville, NC, Beverly Pinchback of Yanceyville, NC, Brenda Hughes of Pelham, NC, Swannie Thomas of McLeansville, NC, and Patricia Robertson of Burlington, NC; five sons, James Lee Robertson of Yanceyville, NC, Anthony Robertson (Yolanda) of Burlington, NC, Richard Robertson (Jennifer) of South Carolina, Kevin Robertson of Greensboro, NC, and Rodney Stewart of Milton, NC. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 6 great -great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Reverend Claude Walker; one niece, LaToya Walker; one aunt, Gracie Robertson; and one very special and devoted friend, Panzy Stewart of Semora, NC; and a host other relatives and friends.
Deacon James Albert Robertson’s life was a testament to his faith in God, his love for his family, and his commitment to his community. His servitude is beautifully captured in the scriptures:
"But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15, ESV)
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." (Colossians 3:23-24, ESV)
Deacon James will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
A viewing will be on Sunday, August 25, 2024, from 2 pm to 7 pm in the John & Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home.
Funeral service for Deacon James Albert "Pete" Robertson will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Providence Missionary Baptist Church with family visitation 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm before funeral service.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
