Mebane, NC - It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Deacon Leroy Womack, 81 of 4106 Gunn Poole Rd. Mebane, NC who passed away on April 19, 2025, at his residence. He was born August 18, 1943, in Person County, NC to the late Mr. Alonzo Womack and Mrs. Lauran Gilmore Womack.
In 1968 Leroy married the love of his life, Annie Bigelow, and to their union two sons were born. Leroy attended Caswell County Schools, and he was a member of Burton’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Deacon Emeritus. Leroy worked from a young age on farms in Caswell County and he worked for Burlington Industries as a diesel mechanic many years until his retirement.
Leroy had a servant’s heart, which he demonstrated by his work with the Caswell County Democratic Party, Voter’s League of Caswell County and Boy Scouts of America. Leroy was master gardener who loved to plant, harvest and can his vegetables. He was generous with his harvest, sharing his crops with members of the community and even teaching people how to can their harvest. His generosity stretched throughout the community, working on cars, and doing other odds and ends.
Leroy leaves to cherish his memory with his devoted wife, Annie Womack of the home, his son Frederick Womack of the home; two brothers, George Womack (Mary) of Yanceyville, Alonza Womack (Sylvia) of Cortlandt Manor, NY, six sisters; Minister Geraldine Thompson (Joseph) of Cedar Grove, Pastor Melinda Turner (Ronald) of Yanceyville, Leona Brandon and Marylene McCain of Semora and Dorothy Thaxton of Milton; five sisters-in-law, Dorothy Womack of Mebane and Dorothy Cunningham of Semora; Rejoice Stewart of Baltimore, MD, Linda Evans of Mebane, Brenda Jones (Nathaniel) of Burlington, Shirley Britt (Wallace) of Fuquay Varina; one brother-in-law Joe McCandies of Mebane; two grandchildren Kennedy and Kendall Womack of the home and two bonus grandchildren Alex Hicks of Greensboro and Kaylnn Jones of Charlotte.
