Deacon Oscar William Swann Obituary

Yanceyville, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Deacon Oscar William Swann, 90 of 6526 Highway 86 South, Yanceyville, North Carolina; entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 23, 2024; at AuthoraCare Collective Hospice Home in Burlington, North Carolina.

He was the son of the late Fletcher Swann, Sr., and Nannie Eugenia Coleman Swann; born on May 13, 1933, as a native of Caswell County, North Carolina.

Deacon Oscar Swann believed in serving the local church. He was an active member of High Rock Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and sung in the male chorus and senior choir. He also was an original member of the Legendary Silver Stars of Blanch, NC. 

Not only did Deacon Swann serve his community as a member of the Leasburg Masonic Lodge 648, a founding member of the Jones Hunting Club, and one of the first employees of Fulton Funeral Home, but he also served our country with pride in the U.S. Army.

Known for his work ethic, Deacon Swann retired after serving as a supervisor for over 30 years at the Burlington Industries’ Williamsburg plant. While working full-time, he also managed his own farm.

Deacon Oscar Swann was predeceased by his beloved wife, Annie Odell Pickard Blackwell Swann, one son, John Henry Blackwell, and the following brothers and sisters: Suretha Swann Rone, Roy Swann, Clyde Swann, Fletcher Swann, Jr., Clara Anderson, Bernice White, and Florence Yellock.

He is survived by his three children, Larry Stephens (Mae) of Blanch, NC, Rex Blackwell (Gwendolyn) of Pelham, NC, and Brenda Williamson of Yanceyville, NC; two sisters, Inez Swann Lambert (Donald) of Yanceyville, NC, and Agnes Swann Mitchell of Mebane, NC and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives, and friends..

Public viewing for Deacon Oscar William Swann will be on Friday, April 26, 2024; from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the John and Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Deacon Oscar William Swann will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024; at High Rock Baptist Church, Pastor Henry Long will deliver the words of comfort.

Interment will follow in High Rock Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites.
