Deacon Robert Lee Hampton Sr.

Axton, VA - It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Deacon Robert Lee Hampton Sr., of 7884 Axton Road, in Axton, Virginia. He passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Ancora Compassionate Care Hospice in Wentworth, North Carolina.

Robert was the son of the late Stephen Hampton, Sr., and Hattie Perkins Hampton, born on November 04, 1940; in Henry County, Virginia.

He attended the local public schools. Shortly afterwards, was employed at Hooker Furnishing Corporation, in Martinsville, Virginia prior to his retirement. Robert worked for one of the World’s most top brand furniture company’s setting the standard for the stylish furnishings for every room of the home.

Robert accepted Christ and he joined Gospel Light United Holy Church in Axton, Virginia. His love continued to flourish in God as he served his family, his church, and community. Robert full-filled his calling as an ordained Deacon, and a member of the Male Chorus as he shared the gospel of Christ.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his five sisters Mildred Smith, Mamie Wade, Ardella Dillard, Annie Mae Jefferson, and Pauline Artis; his three brothers  Alfred Hampton, James Hampton, and Stephen Hampton, Jr.

Deacon Robert Lee Hampton Sr. leaves to cherish his memories with his beloved wife Bettress Clark Hampton and his daughter Treva Hampton both of the home; his son Robert Lee Hampton, Jr., of Eden, North Carolina; four sisters Emma Lou Keen of Eden, North Carolina, Betty Carol Carter of Reidsville, North Carolina, Suzanne Keen of Ridgeway, Virginia, and Doris Perkins (niece) of Axton, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many cherished friends.

A public viewing for Deacon Robert Hampton Sr. will be on Friday, April 24, 2026; from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Fulton-Walton Funeral Home & Memorial Chapel of Eden; 417 Price Street, Eden, NC.

A family visitation viewing for Deacon Robert Hampton Sr. will be on Saturday, April 25, 2026; from 1:30p.m. to 2:00p.m. at Gospel Light United Holy Church, in Axton, VA.

Funeral service for Deacon Robert Hampton Sr. will be conducted at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Gospel Light United Holy Church, in Axton, VA.

Interment will follow at Gospel Light United Holy Church Cemetery in Axton, VA.
