Eden, NC - Deacon William Reid Wilkerson, Jr. affectionately known as Peanut, peacefully transitioned on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Ancora Compassionate Care in Wentworth, North Carolina. Born on April 24, 1939, in Rockingham County, he was the beloved son of the late William Reid Wilkerson, Sr. and Odessa Broadnax Wilkerson.
William was deeply rooted in his faith and was a devoted member of New Saint Paul Baptist Church in Eden, North Carolina. There, he faithfully served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher, leaving an indelible mark on his church community with his wisdom and dedication.
Professionally, William was a hardworking and diligent man, who was the first black Supervisor hired by Fieldcrest Cannon, where he retired after 45 years of service.
William was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters: Teresa Dalton, Sheila Wade, Amelia Cobbs, Gaynell Wilkerson, and Dorothy Ann Smith; and one brother, Clifton Wilkerson.
He was a loving husband to Charlotte Strange Wilkerson, with whom he shared a blessed union and two children: a daughter, Alisha Wilkerson Adams of Eden, North Carolina, and a son, Darryl Wilkerson (Yolanda) of Sterling, Virginia. William was also a proud grandfather to three grandchildren: Nakia Motley, Jinea Adams, and Dominick Wilkerson and four great grandchildren; who brought great joy to his life.
William is survived by his cherished siblings: four sisters, Charlotte Brown (Otis) of Pelham, North Carolina; Fannie Purcell (Vernon) of Eden, North Carolina; Anita Wilkerson of Eden, North Carolina; and Kathy Wilkerson of Stoneville, North Carolina; two brothers, Ronnie Wilkerson of Eden, North Carolina, and Silas Wilkerson (Roylene) of Reidsville, North Carolina. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Frank Strange of Charlotte, North Carolina, and sister-in-law, Edith S. Hairston of Maryland, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Deacon William Reid Wilkerson, Jr. leaves a legacy of faith, love, and service that will continue to inspire all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
A viewing for Deacon William Reid Wilkerson, Jr. will be Friday, January 24, 2025 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Fulton-Walton Memorial Chapel 417 Price St. Eden, NC.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm at New St. Paul Baptist Church, 1020 E. Stadium Dr. Eden, NC. before funeral service.
Funeral Services for Deacon William Reid Wilkerson Jr. will be Saturday, January 25, 2025 12:00 noon at New St. Paul Baptist Church, Eden, NC.
Interment will follow in the Hamlin Cemetery Eden, NC.
