Danville, VA- It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Ms. Dorothy Mae “Niss” Blackwell Willis of 115 Palm Street, Danville, VA; who passed away on Friday, December 08, 2023; at her residence.
Dorothy Mae, the beloved daughter of the late James Haywood Blackwell and Willie Mae Jennings Blackwell, was born on July 04, 1935; in Caswell County, North Carolina.
As a native and lifelong resident, she was a graduate of Caswell County Training School; "Class of 1953".
Dorothy Mae was also employed at Columbia Flooring Company.
Spiritually, she was a member of Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Pelham, NC; where she song in the Senior Choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Cornell Willis; her two daughters: Denise Willis Breedlove and JoAnn Willis; one sister: Margaret Blackwell; her four brothers: Lewis Blackwell, Albert Blackwell, Harrison Blackwell, and Elwood Blackwell.
Ms. Dorothy Mae “Niss” Blackwell Willis leaves to cherish her memories to her daughter: Janie Willis Allen of Danville, VA; her four sons: Cornell Willis, Jr., (Iris) of Greensboro, NC; Brian Keith Willis of Richmond, VA; Ray Anthony Willis, and Antonio Vantezz Willis (Glorinda) all of Danville, VA; her two sisters: Patricia B. Pickard of Ruffin, NC; and Bernice B. Brown of Greensboro, NC; her three brothers: James Blackwell (Luella) of Norfolk, VA; Ernest Blackwell of Greensboro, NC; and Christopher Blackwell of Cascade, VA; her 10 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, her church family, and many cherished friends.
Public viewing for Ms. Dorothy Mae “Niss” Blackwell Willis will be Saturday, December 16, 2023; from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the John and Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral.
Family visitation viewing for Ms. Dorothy Mae “Niss” Blackwell Willis will be Sunday, December 17, 2023; from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Pelham, NC.
Funeral Services for Ms. Dorothy Mae “Niss” Blackwell Willis will be conducted at 2:00pm on Sunday, December 17, 2023; at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Pelham, NC; with Pastor Gregory Hopkins eulogizing.
Interment will follow at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Pelham, NC.
