Dr. Wendell Maurice Lee, 90, of Lawrenceville, NJ, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, with his only child, Wendell Marcus Lee at his side.
Born, April 5, 1932, in Henrico County, Virginia, he was a resident of Brooklyn, NY, before moving to Lawrenceville, NJ 57 years ago. He received his Doctorate Degree in Polymer Chemistry from Brooklyn Polytechnic in 1964, becoming one of the first African Americans to obtain a degree in a discipline that would come to touch almost every aspect of American life. He was recognized for patents and advances in flame retardant plastics. He became an educator of science, in the years prior to his retirement, for the Trenton Board of Education, where he taught for more than 10 years.
The only son of Lucille Johnson. He was preceded in death by his one and only love, Mae Swanson Lee. They were married for 63 years. He is survived by son Wendell M. Lee and daughter-in-law, Loretta A. Lee and two grandchildren Tyler and Zachary. Rudolph and Charlotte Tabb are the closest family relatives sharing many of the details of Wendell’s early life.
A viewing for Dr. Wendell Maurice Lee will be held on Thursday afternoon from 11-12pm at Christ Temple United Holy Church 2867 Martin Dr. Axton, VA.
Funeral services for Dr. Wendell Maurice Lee will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Christ Temple United Holy Church 2867 Martin Dr. Axton, VA at 12:00 Noon.
Interment will be held following the funeral service in the family cemetery at Christ Temple United Holy Church Cemetery Axton, VA.
