Rockingham, NC - It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Ms. Ella Mae Barnhill of 414 Elizabeth Ave. Rockingham, NC, who passed away Friday, August 13, 2021 in the Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst, NC.
Ella Mae Barnhill affectionally known as "Rat" to her family was born to Millicent Shelton Farrow on March 30, 1955. Ella was a sweet, caring and loving person. Always ready to offer you a place to stay and food to eat. Ella loved talking, cooking, and singing gospel using her God given beautiful voice.
Ella joined St. Lydia Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and remained a life-long member. She graduated from Mattamuskeet High School in 1975. She would further her education at Pitt County Community College, where she earned a certificate in welding and her certification as a CNA. She worked in home health care and the restaurant industry throughout her life, until her health begin to fail.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Barnhill; mother, Millicent Farrow; step-father, Columbus Farrow; maternal grandmother, Annie Shelton and her niece, Shanesa Farrow.
She leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, Derrick Shelton of Murray, NC and Jermaine Howard of Raleigh, NC; one sister, Eilene Spencer ( Jody ) of Winterville, NC; three brothers, Edward Farrow ( Shirlene ) of Engelhard, NC, Parnell Farrow ( Navonda ) of Rockingham, NC and Lou James Farrow ( Shelia) of Greenville, NC; one aunt, Della Ruth Spencer and two uncles-in-law, Emmanuel Howard and Hatten Spencer, Jr.; a host of other relatives and friends.
Due to the constraints of public gatherings during the COVID-19 outbreak a viewing will be Saturday, August 21 2021 from 11:00 am to 12 noon before funeral services at the church.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Ella Mae Barnhill will be Saturday, August 21, 2021 12 noon at St. Lydia Missionary Baptist Church, Swan Quarter, NC, with Pastor Selma S. Hunter delivering the words of comfort. Interment will follow in the Brown Memorial Cemetery, Engelhard, NC
