Yanceyville, NC - It is with profound sorrow we announce the passing of Mrs. Hallie Martin Poteat of 2674 Hodges Dairy Rd. Yanceyville, NC, who passed away Monday, May 27, 2019 at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Thomas Jackson Martin and Mary Fannie Turner Martin born June 19, 1933 in Rockingham County, NC. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and was a employee of Burlington Industries before retirement.
She was a member of New Ephesus Baptist Church, where she was one of the oldest members and mother of the church. She was also a deaconess, former youth advisor, a member of the missionary circle, mass choir, and senior choir. Mrs. Hallie as she was called by many sang with the Martin sisters gospel group over 15 years. She later organized the Martinettes gospel group and she was a member of the Pride Of Locust Hill Order Of Eastern Star # 624.
She was preceded in death by her husband Herman Poteat. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Eddie Martin, David Martin and Thomas Martin; three sisters, Mary Bell Harrelson, Ethel Earline Cobb and Carrie Brown; one step son, Dillard Bushnell; one step daughter, Frances Gwynn.
Her survivors are one son, Turner Blackwell ( Tammy ) of Pelham, NC; two daughters, Mary Miles of Ruffin, NC and Nicole McGhee ( Anthony ) of Yanceyville, NC; four step daughters, Betty Graves ( Frank ), Belinda Cannon ( John ), Gwen Blackwell ( Rex ) and Paulette James ( Harold ) all of Pelham, NC; five grandchildren;six great grandchildren; step grandchildren; step great grandchildren; sister-in-law & close friend Edith Martin of Reidsville, NC; close cousin, Lizzie Foster of Yanceyville, NC; close friends, Addie Rucker and Frances Watlington both of Reidsville, NC; other nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
