Harlean (Bigelow) Hill

Yanceyville, NC - It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Mrs. Harlean Bigelow Hill 82, of 170 Julia Street, Yanceyville, North Carolina who passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center, Danville, Virginia.

Harlean B. Hill was born in New York and lived and attended school in Red Bank, NJ.  Harlean moved to Yanceyville, NC in her youth and attended Caswell County Training School (CCTS).  She joined Pearson Chapel AME Church at an early age, where in her later years, she sang in the Senior Choir, served as a Class Leader, participated on the hospitality committee, and attended Sunday School regularly until health challenges made it too difficult.

Harlean graduated from CCTS in the class of 1955 and married Leonza Hill in November 1956.  They had three daughters: Sharon Hill of Durham, NC; Linda Hill of Charlotte, NC; and Cynthia Hill of Smyrna, GA. 

Harlean was employed with Caswell County Schools for over 34 years, starting as a cafeteria worker, moving to library assistant, but serving most  of the years as a teacher’s assistant.  She truly enjoyed working with young students in their early years.  As a mature, compassionate educator she often offered wisdom and encouragement to younger teachers and staff.  After retirement she joined the Retired School Personnel Association and enjoyed fellowship with other school retirees.  Harlean loved reading, doing puzzles, traveling, and watching movies, especially comedies.

Her loving husband, Leonza Hill of 63 years, preceded her in death by one month.  She is survived by her three daughters and her memories will be cherished by many relatives, in-laws, former students and co-workers, and many dear friends.

Due to the constraints of public gatherings during the COVID-19 outbreak a viewing will be held on Friday, July 3, 2020 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home with a limit of 10 people at a time.  Please remember to follow CDC guidelines.  Masks are required.

A Private Funeral Service will be Saturday, July 4, 2020 in the Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in the Pearson Chapel AME  Church Cemetery.

Attendance at the funeral will be limited to fifty (50) individuals and attendees will be pre-determined by the family.

In Lieu of Flowers donations may be made to Pearson Chapel AME Church and The Caswell Senior Center.
