Hildra Phillips Obituary

Mebane, NC - Ms. Hildra B. Phillips daughter of the late Willie Frank Phillips and the late Ada Fuller Phillips departed this life on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Alamance Health Care Center Burlington, North Carolina after months of declining health.

Hildra a graduate of the Caswell County School System received her B.S. degree in Education from Winston-Salem State University. She furthered her education at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina. Later she went on to study Education at North Carolina Central University and A&T State University.

Hildra worked in the Caswell County School System for 34 years, where she was a teacher and also a librarian.  Hildra's education skills lead her to tutor children that had problems in Math and Reading. She was also a Cub Scout-Boy Scout leader for Troop 304 for many years.

At an early age Hildra was baptized and joined Graves Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Yanceyville, North Carolina. She later moved her membership to Sweet Gum Grove Missionary Baptist Church, in Mebane, North Carolina, along with her dad. Hildra served in many capacities at the church; including the Finance Committee, Sunday School Teacher, and Vacation Bible School (VBS) teacher just to name a few.

Hildra’s favorite past-times were gardening, reading and collecting stamps with her nieces.

Cherishing her memories are a devoted sister, Nancy P. Cherry of Mebane, North Carolina; brothers, Isaiah Phillips of Pennsylvania and Theodore Phillips (Spouse Cheryl) of New Jersey; foster brother, Charlie Mills of Pennsylvania; special nieces, nephews, loving cousins and friends. Special caregivers, Willie Esther Bigelow, and niece Tasha Cherry. Thanks to her supporters, Lauran Horton, Henry Graves, Valerie Riddick, Alvera Hall, and nephew, Todd Phillips.
