Eden, NC -
On Thursday morning, January 6, Mr. Joe Henry Hairston Sr., made his transition into eternal rest at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC surrounded by his family.
Our beloved husband, father and friend was born November 28, 1944, in Pittsylvania County, VA, to the late Nathaniel Hairston Sr and Louise Hampton. What a joy it is to know that he lived a Christian life and a life of service to everyone he met. His presence had an impact on the community, and he was known for his amazing personality.
As a long time resident of Rockingham County, his formative years of education was in Pittsylvania and Rockingham County Schools.
Those that know him, know that he worked at Spray Cotton in Eden, NC and Dan River Mills in Danville, VA, until his retirement. After working several years in textile, he went into farming to help take care of his siblings. With joy and servitude, he continued farming until his retirement.
Being nurtured in the Christian faith, he attended Bluestone Baptist church in his earlier years. Later, he decided to attend Church of God of Prophecy with his wife before his transition.
Being loved by all who knew him, he was a person who loved to laugh, play, pick, cry or just break out with a song. He would offer you whatever he had before he ate it. That was Joe! We will forever cherish his memory.
Not only was he preceded in death by his loving parents, but he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth H. Smith and Rose Hairston; Brothers, James Hairston, Nathaniel Hairston and Hassle Hairston.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving wife of 53 years, Judy F. Hairston of the home; two sons, Joe H. Hairston Jr (Christian) and Adrian Hairston.
