Joshua Thompson Obituary

Yanceyville, NC -  It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Mr. Joshua Thompson, age 80,  of 351 Cobb Rd. who peacefully transitioned on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at UNC Hospital at Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  He was born August 27, 1939 to Buck Thompson, Sr. and Noreen Vincent Thompson.  Joshua was married to Kelsey Poole Thompson for 53 years. He is survived by, his wife Kelsey and five children; Joseph Thompson of Burlington, NC,  Marcus Thompson (Angela) of Yanceyville, NC , Richard Poole (Stephanie) of Burlington, NC, ShaTonya Wiley of Dallas Texas and Glenda Renee Wiley of High Point, NC; two siblings, Ned Vincent (Bernice) of Clover, VA. and Alice Burnette of Butner, NC; 10 grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Joshua was Deacon Emeritus at the Allen's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Prospect Hill, North Carolina.  He also served as Superintendent of Sunday School, Vice Chairman of Deacon’s Ministry and the Usher Board. Joshua was a former Master of the Masonic Lodge #676 and the Order of Eastern Star #529.

He was a Troop Leader of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop #304, serving faithfully for 30 years.  Additionally, Joshua served as coach for the Sweet Gum Community baseball and women’s softball leagues; while serving as mentor for Big Brothers of America.  His favorite pastime was fishing, a sport he loved.  Joshua mastered the skill of cooking the best fish at the Annual Hoedown Festival in Yanceyville, North Carolina.

Joshua retired from Culp Finishing in Graham, North Carolina. Realizing that he had more to give, he became employed by the Caswell County Department of Transportation located in Yanceyville, North Carolina.   

Due to the constraints of public gatherings during the COVID-19 outbreak a viewing will be held on Friday, April 10, 2020 from 2 to 8 PM from the Juanita  S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton- Walton Funeral  Home with a limited of 10 people at a time.
