Blanch, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mrs. Mattie Beatrice Banks Fitzgerald of 1841 Slade Rd. Blanch, NC, who passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023; in the Yanceyville Health and Rehab. Center, Yanceyville, NC.
Mattie Beatrice Banks, “Kitty” was born May 27,1937 in Pittsylvania County, Danville Va. She was the daughter of the late Isema McLaughn and George Banks. Kitty was raised by her grandmother the late Australia Banks Cobbs.
Mattie Beatrice Banks, “Kitty” attended Pittsylvania County Public Schools in Danville Va., where she graduated from John M. Langston High School. After high school Mattie Beatrice Banks. “Kitty” attended cosmetology school and became a hair stylist.
At an early age she began to develop a relationship with God and thus her Christian conversion at Camp Grove Baptist Church, in Danville Virginia. The course of life for Mattie Beatrice Banks. “Kitty” took a pleasant and rewarding turn in 1959 when she married the late Willie Albert Fitzgerald. To the union no children were born. They migrated to N.Y, where Mattie Beatrice Banks. “Kitty” worked as a Brista at Jackie Robinson Chock Full O’Nuts. Mattie Beatrice Banks Fitzgerald. “Kitty '' worked at the United States Postal Office, after 45 years of tenure she retired in 2010. At the time she moved to NC to live with her sister Candacy M. Mitchell and became known as “Mrs. New York” Mattie Beatrice Banks Fitzgerald. “Kitty became a member of Yanceyville Missionary Baptist Church where she continued her Christian growth.
In additions to Mattie Beatrice Banks Fitzgerald’s parents, grandmother, and her husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters: Carole Griffith, and Gerdine Banks; and her one brother: Pete Crawley. Those left to rejoice in her precious memories is her one sister: Candacy Mitchell, three nieces: Patrice Mitchell, Lindia Mitchell, and Bennie Mitchell; two nephews: Timothy Mitchell, and Samuel Fitzgerald; five great nieces; fifteen great nephews; a god-daughter: Njeri Pollitt; and a host of family and friends.
A viewing for Mrs. Mattie Beatrice Banks Fitzgerald will be Sunday, February 12, 2023; from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the John and Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Mattie Beatrice Banks Fitzgerald will be Monday, February 13, 2023; at 11:00am at Yanceyville Missionary Baptist Church, in Yanceyville, NC. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Danville, VA.
