Cascade, VA - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mr. Michael "Big Mike" Ray Strange of 4765 Cascade Road, Cascade Virginia. He passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Duke University Medical Center, in Durham, North Carolina.
Michael was the beloved son of Walter Strange, and the late Shirley Ann Williams Strange, born on September 08, 1969, in Rockingham County, North Carolina.
As a native and lifelong resident of Pittsylvania County, he attended the local public schools and graduated from Tunstall High School, in Dry Fork, Virginia, Class of 1988. Michael was a machine operator with the third-largest American tobacco manufacturing company ITG Brands in Danville, Virginia until his declining health. He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Cascade, Virginia.
He shared a deep love for spending time with his family, whether it was a family cookout and/or an annual family Tennessee Cabin trip. He had a special love for everyone who knew him. Big Mike was also a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. He watched every game. Always cheering on his team, no matter the score, he would be supporting his “boys” all while “trash talking” about the opposing team. His passion for sports extended beyond the Cowboys. He was also a true supporter of the 58 Motor Sports and Blacktown Racing Club.
Mr. Michael "Big Mike" Ray Strange leaves to cherish his precious memories with his father Walter Strange of the home; two daughters Kennedy Strange and Aaliyah Strange both of Martinsville, Virginia; his son Jalen Strange of Danville, Virginia; one grandchild Mackenzi Terry of Martinsville, Virginia; three sisters Angie S. Wade (Steven), Janet Strange all of Eden, North Carolina, and Vanessa Thomas of Danville, Virginia; four brothers Lonnie Strange (Vickie) of Danville, Virginia, Lawrence Strange (Gwen) and Ricky Strange (Debra) all of Cascade, Virginia, Martin Strange (Racelle) of Tallahassee, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many cherished friends. Big Mike will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, kindness and laughter will live in the hearts of all who knew and loved .
