Blanch, NC - Derrick Henry Mims, a man that carried with him the values of family, hard work, and perseverance throughout his life. Always striving to meet his responsibilities, Derrick was a man who put his loved ones first, working diligently to provide for them and secure their future. He always gave constant, gentle love and support.
Derrick was and will forever and always be a loving husband, father, and grandfather always eager to love, quick to protect, ready to praise and anxious to give of himself. His wisdom and insight led him to instill in his family the importance of loyalty, integrity, hard work, generosity, and kindness.
Derrick was born on February 15, 1966, in Reidsville, NC and transitioned out of this life on February 18, 2026, in Winston Salem, NC. He was a member of Blackwell Missionary Baptist Church.
Raised in Caswell County, Derrick attended Bartlett Yancey High School, where he was a proud member of the marching band. His musical talent earned him a band scholarship to North Carolina Central University. A talented horn player, he was especially known for his unforgettable dancing ability while in formation — a gift that brought smiles to classmates, friends, and anyone lucky enough to watch him perform. His love and appreciation for music will live on and be a part of our family forever.
Later, over the course of his career, Derrick worked in many industries, notably dedicating more than 20 years to the tobacco industry. He was a committed and hardworking employee at Commonwealth Brands and later at ITG Brands. Those who worked alongside him knew him as dependable, knowledgeable, and proud of the work he did.
Derrick was preceded in death by his beloved mother and father, Ethel Ann Graves Mims and James Henry Mims, whose lessons and love shaped the man he became.
Derrick leaves behind his first love, Kimberly Foster Mims and three loving children, Cari, Camille and Khalif, who were the pride of his life. His greatest joy was his grandson, Royce Jameson— a light in his world and a reflection of the legacy he leaves behind. He is also survived by four brothers, Michael, Kevin, Jamie, and Jonathan Douglas; aunts, Beatrice Graves ( Roy), Betty Blackwell, and Juanita Hankins; uncles, William Mims ( Clarinda), Kenneth Mims, Rufus Graves and Gary Lewis Graves; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
In the hearts of our family Derrick will forever be with us. His passing was unexpected, and the void left by his absence is immeasurable. Nothing can replace him. Yet in the love that he gave, the music he loved, the hard work ethic he modeled for the family that he built, his spirit endures.
Though our hearts are heavy, we hold tight to the gift of having him, knowing him, loving him and being loved by him.
