Danville, VA - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mr. Gary Neal Hightower age 59 of 142 Wesley Drive, Apartment 8 in Danville, Virginia. He passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Inova Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia.
Gary “affectionately known as Hightower” was the son of the late James David Hightower and Nancy Mae Robertson Hightower, born February 23, 1966, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
He received his education within the Caswell County public school system and was a Class of 1984 graduate of Bartlett Yancey Senior High School in Yanceyville, North Carolina. Gary was a member of New Zion Baptist Church in Milton, North Carolina.
Gary developed a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility, leading him to become a weaver in the textile industry at Burlington Industries and later at Dan River Mills.
He was passionate about football, especially his favorite football team, the Las Vegas Raiders and the Los Angeles Lakers. He also enjoyed talking, never meeting a stranger, laughing, acting up (jokester) and having good clean fun with his family and friends. Even though he was fun-loving son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, relative, and friend, he was also known as a man who meant business and stood on his word.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sister Nannie Hightower; and his three brothers, John David Hightower, William “Bill” Warren Hightower, and Larry Nathaniel Hightower.
Mr. Gary Neal Hightower leaves to cherish his memories with his beloved and devoted wife, Chamette Coleman Hightower of the home; his daughter Tiera Williams of Portsmouth, Virginia; his six sons Jarod Williams, Sr. (Taylor) of Dinwiddie, Virginia, Jamal Williams (Tatyana), Jamori “Bill” Fitzgerald, Xavion Gunter, Joshua Davis (Angel), and Johnathan Coleman all of Danville, Virginia; his 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his special great-grandchild Naomi Green; his three sisters, Nancy Hightower Hicks of Blanch, North Carolina, Mary Marionette Moore of Danville, Virginia, and Delois Robertson of Danville, Virginia, one brother Robert Leroy Hightower of Milton, North Carolina; his aunt Gracie Robertson of Yanceyville, North Carolina; his five sisters-in-law, Catherine Hightower, Kathy Keen Hightower, Diane Woods, Saundra Palmer, and Kathy Cobbs all of Danville, Virginia; his special niece Sherrell Hairston of Martinsville, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and his many cherished friends who all loved him and will miss him dearly.
While we grieve from his absence, we take comfort in knowing that to be absent from this world is to be present with the Lord. Gary’s absence will be felt on a profound level, but his love, laughter, and unwavering support will forever live on in the hearts of those he cherished.
