Yanceyville, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mr. George Junius Womack age 77 of 7004 NC Highway 86 South, Yanceyville, North Carolina. He passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at UNC Chapel Hill Hospitals, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
He was born July 30, 1947, in Person County, North Carolina to the late Mr. Alonzo Womack and Mrs. Lauran Gilmore Womack. George attended Caswell County public schools.
In 1971 George married the love of his life, Mary Delois Bigelow, and to their union two sons were born. George was a member of Burton’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Mebane, North Carolina. George was employed at Glen Raven Mills until he became disabled.
George was a humble man and enjoyed spending time at home with his family. When his health was good, he raised pigs and always had a beautiful garden. He grew the prettiest watermelons. George had a porch ministry. He spent his days sitting on the stoop waving at people who passed by on Highway 86. His ministry was so effective that people would stop and bring him gifts because his simple act of kindness meant so much to the community. When he was not sitting on the porch, the members of the community missed him.
George leaves to cherish his memory with his devoted wife, Mary Delois Womack of the home; two sons Rodney Womack (LeKeshia) of Yanceyville, North Carolina, and Jason Womack (Nina) of the home; one brother Alonza Womack (Sylvia) of Cortlandt Manor, New York; six sisters Geraldine Thompson (Joseph) of Cedar Grove, North Carolina, Melinda Turner (Ronald) of Yanceyville, North Carolina, Leona Brandon and Marylene McCain both of Semora, North Carolina, and Dorothy Thaxton of Milton, North Carolina; seven sisters-in-law Annie Womack, Dorothy Womack, and Linda Evans all of Mebane, North Carolina, Dorothy Cunninham of Semora, North Carolina Rejoice Stewart of Baltimore, Maryland, Brenda Jones (Nathaniel) of Burlington, North Carolina, and Shirley Britt (Wallace) of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; one brother-in-law Joe McCandies of Mebane, North Carolina; four grandchildren Devondre Benton, Trevares Womack, Jawad Womack, and Jada Womack.
He was preceded in death by four brothers Junious Cunningham, Leroy Womack, John Womack, and Earl Stewart; three sisters Josephine Thompson, Katherine Smith, and Essie Goodman; and one brother-in-law Johnnie Bigelow; and one sister-in-law Irma McCandies.
