Pelham, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of
Mr. Gillis Maurice Simpson of 3984 Allsion Road, Pelham, North Carolina. He transitioned from this life on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Gillis was the son of the late Willie Frances Mims Riggsbee, who was born on May 30,1956, in Caswell County, North Carolina.
At an early age, Gillis attended Mineral Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Pelham, North Carolina. He attended the Caswell County public school system. Gillis served in the United States Army as a P19F10 Tank Driver and was honorably discharged. Gillis was employed as a Dump Truck Driver and provided lawncare services until he became disabled.
Gillis was predeceased by his parents, grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Simpson, his brother George Mims, his bonus son Johnny Williams, and the love of his life Debra Ann Simpson.
Mr. Gillis Maurice Simpson leaves to mourn his loss and cherish his precious memories with his beloved son Caleah Simpson of Pelham, North Carolina; his devoted and beloved daughter Kyra Simpson (Pooh) of Clinton, Maryland and a bonus daughter Camisha Spencer of Yanceyville, North Carolina; three bonus sons Shaun Simpson of Kentucky, Tim Foster of Pelham, North Carolina, and Israel Simpson Sr., of Eden, North Carolina; two sisters Anita Long of Reidsville, North Carolina and Marqueita Sandoval ( Hugo) of Germantown, Maryland; three brothers Mark Mims of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Lovelton Mims of Pelham, North Carolina, and Quentin Mims of Capital Heights, Maryland; aunts and uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many cherished friends.
A viewing for Mr. Gillis Maurice Simpson will be on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 10:00am to 2:00pm in the John & Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Mr. Gillis Maurice Simpson will be conducted on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 2:00pm in the John and Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home.
Bishop Dr. Rolan Cohen Sr. of the Judah House of Worship Church in Danville, Virginia will deliver the words of comfort.
Interment will take place at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.
