Eden, NC - Mr. John Albert Settle, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend, entered eternal rest on July 29, 2025. Born on August 24, 1943, in Reidsville, North Carolina, John was the beloved son of the late Mr. John Wesley Settle and Mrs. Elizabeth Williamson Settle.
Rooted in the Baptist faith, John was a member of Grooms Missionary Baptist Church. He lived a life of purpose and service, guided by strong values, compassion for others, and a deep sense of community.
John was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Reidsville, North Carolina. He pursued higher education, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Johnson C. Smith University. His academic journey continued at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he pursued his master’s degree in psychology. A man of great pride and brotherhood, John was a devoted member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.
As an U.S. Army veteran, John served his country stateside as an Army psychologist where he assisted servicemen as they transitioned from war. If you know John, then you know he was a smart, multi-talented man with a wide variety of interests. As such, his professional life took many twist and turns along the way – from nightclub owner to California Youth Authority counselor to life insurance agent to business owner, ending his career as an Operations Manager with American Airlines.
John was preceded in death by his loving parents; his brother, David Levester Settle; and his beloved son, Marques John Settle.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Telma Basil Stephenson of the home; three loving daughters: Lyzette Settle Wallace of Washington, D.C., Karen Jenkins (Arthur) of California, and J’hon Settle of California; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two caring sisters: Barbara Murrell of Eden, NC, and Theresa Troxler (Robert) of Reidsville, NC; one brother; William Arthur Settle of Reidsville, NC; one cherished aunt, Lucy Foster of Hillsborough, NC; one sister-in-law Paulette Settle of Reidsville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
Though he is no longer with us in the physical sense, John’s legacy of faith, excellence, service, and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
May the memory of John Albert Settle continue to shine brightly and bring peace to all those who hold him dear.
