THE LIFE, LOVE, AND LEGACY OF MR. JOHN WESLEY FULTON

 

A TIME TO BE BORN:  Mr. John Wesley Fulton was one of six siblings born June 25, 1928, to the late Frank Fulton and Flaxie Harris Fulton in Farmville, North Carolina (Pitt County). 

A TIME TO LEARN:  Mr. John Wesley Fulton graduated from Farmville Colored High School early with high honors.

Mr. Fulton had a dream to become a Funeral Director and Mortician. He furthered his education in Funeral Service Education with high honors from both Gupton-Jones Mortuary College in Nashville, Tennessee, and Cleveland Mortuary College, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Mr. Fulton worked at House of Wills Funeral Home in Cleveland, while he attended College.

A TIME TO SERVE:  After graduating High School Mr. Fulton got a job at the shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia, and he later joined the United States Army serving in Okinawa, Japan (World War II).

When Mr. Fulton finished Mortuary College, he moved to High Point, North Carolina. There he served and completed his Funeral Director and Embalming apprenticeship at Hoover Funeral Home under the supervision of the late Mr. Walter Hoover.

Mr. Fulton managed Hoover Funeral Home in Monroe, North Carolina.

A TIME TO STEP OUT ON FAITH:  Mr. Fulton moved to Charlotte, North Carolina; where he  worked at the local hospital. He lived at a boarding house; where his landlord was friends with Mrs. Lillian McLaurin at McLaurin Funeral in Reidsville, North Carolina. Mrs. Lillian McLaurin came to Charlotte visiting her friend; when she mentioned that she needed a licensed Funeral Director and Mortician at her establishment.

A TIME TO LOVE:  After accepting the position with Mrs. Lillian McLaurin at McLaurin Funeral in Reidsville, North Carolina; Mr. John Wesley Fulton met Miss Juanita Stokes (She also worked at the Funeral Home).

Mr. Fulton united in holy matrimony on July 04, 1956, to the “love of his life” Miss Juanita Stokes.

That same year Mr. Fulton went into partnership with Mrs. Lillian McLaurin; where he managed their McLaurin-Fulton Funeral Home branch in Yanceyville, North Carolina.

A TIME TO WORK:  In 1962, Mr. John Wesley Fulton purchased the McLaurin-Fulton Funeral Home branch in Yanceyville, North Carolina and the name was changed to “Fulton Funeral Home”. He was not only a funeral director and a mortician; he also served Caswell County, and the surrounding counties as a 24-hour ambulance driver.

Mr. John Wesley Fulton owned and operated Fulton Funeral Home in Yanceyville, North Carolina for over 63 years.

A TIME TO TEACH OTHERS:  The late Mrs. June McLaurin Jeffers and his god son Quenton Walton completed their Funeral Director and Embalming apprenticeship under the supervision of Mr. John Wesley Fulton.

When Quenton Walton started his career in the Funeral Service Industry in 1991 under the leadership of Mr. John Wesley Fulton. Quenton had to be committed and teachable to be mentored and groomed by Mr. Fulton.

A TIME TO NEVER STOP SERVING:  Mr. John and Mrs. Juanita Fulton together made a life-long commitment to serving the community with integrity, dignity, fairness, patience, kindness, and most of all with respect.

A TIME TO APPRECIATE:  The Dillard Educational & Economic Service (DEEDS) community came together to show their appreciation to Mr. John Wesley Fulton by honoring him with an Entrepreneurship award at their annual banquet.

A TIME TO ENJOY LIFE:  Mr. Fulton’s favorite past times were watching the sports channel, playing, and caring for his cat “Henrietta”, going out to restaurants, socializing at the funeral home, and other social events.

A TIME TO REST:  Mr. John Wesley Fulton, 93 years old, completed his earthly journey and departed this life in the early morning hours of Tuesday, February 22, 2022; with his god son, Quenton by his side.

Mr. John Wesley Fulton was the last of his generation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mrs. Juanita Stokes Fulton; his three sisters, Lucretia Fulton, Juanita Fulton Johnson, and Mary Frances Ford; his two brothers, Eli Fulton, and Glenn Fulton.

Although Mr. John Wesley Fulton will be greatly missed, but his legacy will continue through his god son, Quenton Walton and the Fulton-Walton Funeral Home Staff.

A TIME TO CELEBRATE:  Mr. John Wesley Fulton leaves to cherish his precious memories and tell his stories to his  nieces, Bernita Johnson-Gabriel of Chicago, Illinois, Mazetta “Zet” Ford-Medina of Trumbull, Connecticut; Rita Ford of Silver Spring, Maryland, Karamah Khashiun of Apopka, Florida,  one brother-in-law, Cecil C. Stokes of Baltimore, Maryland;  nieces, Adell S. Edmonds (James) of Halifax, Virginia, Sylvia S. Diedhiou (Regisse) of Catonsville, Maryland, Barbara S. Worsham of Randallstown, Maryland, Cecilia Stokes of Baltimore, Maryland, Linda Stokes of Baltimore, Maryland, Renee S. Taylor (Theodore) of Columbus, Georgia;  nephew, Michael Stokes (Anita) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania;  his devoted god-son, Quenton Walton (Janette) of Elon, North Carolina; great nieces, Shannon Stokes-Graham (Paul) of Gwynn Oak, Maryland, Tammy Stokes-Hewitt (Greg) of McLeansville, North Carolina, Chantell Worsham of Randallstown, Maryland, Ketia Stokes of Baltimore, Maryland;  great nephew, John Lenwood Rogers of Brookneal, Virginia;  great-great nieces, Alison Stokes of Martinsville, Virginia, Olivia Stokes of Prince George, Virginia, Jordan Penn of Norfolk, Virginia;  great-great nephews, Bryson Stokes of Martinsville, Virginia, Darrion Stokes-Graham of Baltimore, Maryland, Joshua Hewitt of McLeansville, North Carolina, Jaxen Rogers of Brookneal, Virginia, Jace Rogers of Brookneal, Virginia, Aaron Taylor of Baltimore, Maryland;  great-great-great nephew, Ali Williams of Norfolk, Virginia; other relatives, and friends.

A viewing will be Saturday, February 26, 2022 from 5 to 7 pm in the Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home. 

Lying in State for Mr. John Wesley Fulton will be from 12:30-2:00pm Sunday, February 27, 2022, at the Caswell County Civic Center in Yanceyville, NC.

Funeral Services for Mr. John Wesley Fulton will be Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Caswell County Civic Center in Yanceyville, NC. Interment and committal will be Monday, February 28, 2022 12 noon  in the Sunset Memorial Park, Farmville, NC .
