Blanch, NC - God, in his divine plan, chose to bring home our dearly loved Mr. Joseph Long from his residence of 1279 John Long Road, in Blanch, North Carolina on Monday, September 08, 2025.
Joseph was the son of the late John Henry Long and Annie Mitchell Long, born on September 06, 1934, in Caswell County, North Carolina. As a native and lifelong resident of Caswell County, he attended the local public schools and the Caswell County Training School. He continued his education at the North Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Being skilled and talented at farming, Joseph was self-employed as a farmer, which he helped many throughout the community. He also worked at the Southern Process Tobacco Factory for many years. At an early age, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour and joined the High Rock Baptist Church, where he was a loyal and faithful member. Joseph served with the High Rock Brothers in Christ and sung in the Senior Choir and the Male Chorus. He loved singing so much that he also sung in the Mt. Olive Senior Choir, Male Chorus, and the Silver Stars.
More than anything, Joseph cherished his family and was happiest when he was surrounded by them. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. His devotion to his family reflected his love for God and the values he lived by every day. He leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and family traditions that will live on for generations.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his sister Vera Long, and his brothers Roosevelt, Tommy, Sidney, Isaac, and Simpson Long.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his devoted and beloved wife of 65 years Mattie Johnson Long of the home; two daughters, Debra Long Enoch (Daniel) of Graham, North Carolina and Chaneta Long Boney (Kendrick) of Burlington, North Carolina; and his only son Reverend John Long (Sharon) of Blanch, North Carolina; one sister, Ella Long Crutchfield (Joe) of Semora, North Carolina; his five grandchildren, John Long (Veronica), JoBryant Long, Jordan Enoch, Jaeden Boney, and Jada Boney, and three bonus grandchildren Terrance Long, Tiffany Echols, and Jhabari Johnson; his six great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Hattie Newby, Bessie Louise Glass, and Catherine Johnson, a cousin/sister Ollie Scott, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.
At 91 years old, he left us with a legacy that cannot be measured in years alone, but in the depth of love, wisdom, and faith he poured into every life he touched. His presence carried peace, his words carried wisdom, and his heart carried compassion. You may be gone from this world, but your spirit lives on in all of us.
