Blanch, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the sudden death of brother Maurice Willie Thomas Jr. 21,of Blanch NC, who departed this life on March 22, 2026.
Maurice graduated from Bartlett Yancey High in 2023, where he loved to play basketball and football. He briefly attended Averett University on a scholarship. He was also employed by the city of Burlington.
Maurice was a young man with a quiet presence but a powerful impact. He was funny in a way that could lift your spirit without even trying and caring in a way that made people feel seen, safe, and loved. He didn’t have to say much—his actions spoke for him. Whether it was offering help, showing up when it mattered, or simply being there, Maurice had a heart that gave without hesitation.
He took pride in himself and how he carried himself. Always well dressed, Maurice had his own style and confidence that made him stand out. He enjoyed the simple things in life—working, shopping, and riding around, listening to music and spending time with the people he loved most. Those everyday moments meant everything to him, and now they mean even more to those who shared them with him.
Maurice had a true passion for sports, especially basketball and football. Being on the court or the field brought him joy, and it was where his energy, focus, and love for the game really showed. Whether he was playing competitively or just for fun, those moments were a big part of who he was.
Above all, Maurice was family to everyone he crossed paths with. He shared a special bond with his mother, and his love for her was undeniable. He also leaves behind two sisters and one brother, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. His love extended beyond his immediate family to friends and loved ones who became like family over time.
Maurice’s life, though far too short, was filled with meaning, love, and moments that will never be forgotten. His smile, his quiet strength, his laughter, and his presence will live on in every story told and every memory shared. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never, ever forgotten
Maurice was preceded in death by his grandfather Ozea Pointer, great grandmothers Mary B Pettiford and Marie Elliot, great grandfather Squire Pettiford, uncle James O. Slade, and his best friend Joshua Rone.
