Mr. Michael Slade Obituary

Yanceyville, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mr. Michael Slade age 69 of 692 Top Not Road, Yanceyville, North Carolina. He passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2025, at Alamance Regional Medical Center (Cone Health) in Burlington, North Carolina.

Michael Slade was born on December 4, 1955, in Washington, D.C., to the late Arthur Fletcher Slade and Hazel June Johnson. He was a proud graduate of Eastern High
School in Washington, D.C. Michael went on to attend college at American University, where he majored in Accounting. He later worked in the Accounting office for the
Federal Government before transitioning to a career as a dedicated Taxicab driver, a position he held for over 40 years.

In his role as a cab driver, Michael had the opportunity to meet many interesting people, including once picking up the actor Danny Glover. Despite his professional career, Michael’s passion was always his family. He took great pride in caring for his loved ones—driving his daughter to and from school and later doing the same for his granddaughter. He also spent many evenings playing cards with his mother after a long day at work and handling various household tasks.

Growing up, Michael was a man of many talents. He had a passion for skating, which he enjoyed for over 35 years and was an active member of the local bowling league for more than 25 years. In junior high school, Michael was a standout athlete, earning the MVP award in football at Hamilton Junior High School in Washington, D.C., in 1971. He also attended Ruth K. Webb Elementary School.

After retiring, Michael relocated to Yanceyville, North Carolina, where he found peace and solace in the close-knit community of Caswell County. Michael was known for his love of working with his hands. Whether it was fixing his vehicles, lawnmower, or other household equipment, and taking great pride in his lawn. Michael also had a strong passion for learning, and he enjoyed expanding his vocabulary by learning a new word every day.

In his personal time, Michael had a deep love for watching television, especially Westerns like The Rifleman and Gunsmoke along with reality shows such as Shark
Tank. He also enjoyed listening to music, particularly his favorite Motown hits—“Tracks of My Tears” and “Tears of a Clown” by Smokey Robinson, as well as his all-time
favorite song, “Michael The Lover” by The C.O.D.s.

Although Michael was more of a private person, his love for his family was undeniable. His daughters, Michelle and Mikki, were his pride and joy. Even though he didn't speak
with his extended family frequently, he often spoke of them fondly. His sharp wit and sense of humor remained intact until the day the Lord called him home and he loved
making jokes whenever he called family members. Michael even continued to dance in his final days at the nursing home, a testament to his lively spirit.

Michael is survived by two beloved daughters: Michelle Slade Allen of Laurel, Maryland, and Mikki Slade of Elkridge, Maryland; a sister, Gayle Slade Dunston (Tony) of Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren: Craig Jr., Michala, Monet, Antonio, Kaliyah, and Amir; one great-grandchild, Davon Jr.; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, other extended family members. Michael’s impact on the lives of those around him will never be forgotten.

His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, surrounded by love and eternal rest. Michael will forever remain in our hearts.
