John 3:16 - “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting Life.”
Washington, DC - Mr. Mitchell Wayne Graves, age 57, departed this earthly life on April 17, 2025, in Washington, DC. Mitchell was the beloved son of Viola Lea Graves and the late Stephen Houston Graves (Joe Banks) both formerly of Yanceyville, NC. He was the grandson of the late Earl Lea and Sylvan Mitchell Lea, the late Rufus Mitchell Graves, Sr. and Idelle Johnson Graves. Mitchell had four Uncles who also preceded him in death. They are Rufus Mitchell Graves, Jr., Lawrence Purcell Graves, Anthony Lawynn Lea and Earl Delaney Lea.
Mitchell will forever be remembered spending his summers on his maternal grandfather’s farm. If he ever got missing, he could be found on his Papa’s John Deere tractor pretending to be driving while sitting in the hot sun. Mitchell would often play on the tractor until he fell asleep or until he was tuckered out. As he grew older, Mitchell would listen for the sound of the tractor. And based on the direction of that sound, he could easily find the location of his Papa’s whereabouts.
Mitchell was loved by many, including his late maternal great grandmother Susie Boyd Mitchell who often called him “the curly head boy”.
Mitchell graduated from Anacostia High School in Washington, DC. Shortly after graduation, he joined the Armed Services in the Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg. And, he also worked for several private companies in the Washington DC area.
Mitchell leaves to cherish his memory, his mother Viola Lea Graves, his Son Micah Graves, and his sister, Marcia Lajuan Graves Slaughter. Also, there are two nieces; Capri Slaughter and Chanel Slaughter; four nephews, Cortney Slaughter, Chauncey Slaughter, Carlos Slaughter, Khyrie Slaughter and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends.
Revelations 21:4 - “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
A Memorial Service will be held at a later.
