Caswell Co. NC - It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Mr. Otha Dillard Johnson of Washington, DC, who passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025 in the VA Hospital in Washington, DC.
He was a native of Caswell County, NC , the son of the late Louis Johnson and Lemma Fuller Johnson, born May 9, 1944, where he attended the Caswell County Schools.
Seeking new opportunities, Otha moved to Washington, DC to join his older brothers and sisters. Soon after he relocated, he was drafted into military service in support of the Vietnam War. In June 1965, Otha began active-duty service in the United States Army. Following basic training, he was stationed in Korea, where he quickly adapted to Army life, rose in rank, and earned several medals and distinctions for his service.
After his honorable from the Army, Otha returned to Washington, DC and held several different jobs before finding his calling as a truck driver for the Safeway Foods Stores Distribution Center, where he worked until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, Otha was preceded in death by seven brothers, Herman, James, David, Joe Lewis, Lonnie, Rufus, Otis; five sisters, Helen, Mildred, Queen, Mary Lemma and Julia.
Otha Dillard Johnson leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved and devoted partner, Yvonne, of Washington, DC; two daughters, Gale Galloway in Eden, NC and Carla West of Sanford, NC; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ackery Foster of Blanch, NC; four sisters-in-law, Virginia Johnson of Washington, DC, Wynolia Johnson and Shirley Johnson of Blanch, NC, and Emma Johnson of Tampa, Florida; along with a host of adored nieces; nephews; and friends that will miss him deeply.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00pm in the John & Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home.
Funeral service to Mr. Otha Dillard Johnson will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 1:00 pm at Blackwell Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Blackwell Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites.
