Yanceyville , NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mr. Peter Joseph Woods 82 of 370 Hines Ridge Road in Yanceyville, North Carolina. He passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Roanoke Carilion Memorial Hospital, in Roanoke, Virginia.

Peter, a United States Marine Corps veteran, served with honor and carried the grit, humor, and stubborn determination as a Marine into every chapter of his life. Once honorably discharged, Peter continued to support his community, family, and friends with the same unwavering loyalty.

He truly enjoyed life to the absolute fullest and brought joy to those around him. Peter had a gift for making friends wherever he went to—grocery stores, gas stations, and front porches, you name it. If you had a moment Peter was always quick to start a conversation or crack a joke, yet when it was all over somehow, he managed to walk away knowing your whole life’s story. Peter had a special fondness for dogs, and they loved him in return. If one was wagging their tail nearby, Peter was already halfway across the yard to greet it. Overall, being around family and friends was his favorite place to be, and Peter lived every day with a sense of joy, humor, and appreciation for the simple things of life.

Mr. Peter Joseph Woods, a devoted father, leaves to cherish his laugh-filled memories with his children Darrell, Katrina, and Michael along with a loving partner to his long-time companion Stella Hawkins; a host of grandchildren whom he adored and bragged about shamelessly. Peter will be remembered for his big heart, his bigger personality, and the countless ways he made life brighter for everyone whose lives that he touched. May Peter rest in peace, and may his laughter echo into our memories for years to come.
