Mrs. Alvera Lambert Lea Lipscomb Obituary

Blanch, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mrs. Alvera Lambert Lea Lipscomb, age 93, who was affectionately known by family as “Bip” of 6554 Blanch Road, Blanch, North Carolina. On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, just after sunset, in a twinkling of an eye, heaven welcomed another angel home from Hock Family Pavilion Hospice Facility in Durham, North Carolina. This angel was Mrs. Alvera Lambert Lea Lipscomb, brimming with Love, Grace, Compassion, and Mercy, always perceiving the goodness within everyone.

Alvera, born on April 28, 1931, was the ninth child of the late Eddie Banks Lea and Mamie Hinton Lea. She was the last survivor among her siblings, marking the end of her generation.

Alvera became a member of River Zion Baptist Church at a young age and remained devoted to it until her passing. She actively participated in various roles or wore many hats within the church, serving as the Chairperson of the Kitchen Committee, Church Clerk, President of the Senior Choir, Leader of the Missionary group, Secretary of the Usher Board, Church Mother, and an enthusiastic Sunday School Scholar.

Educated in the Caswell County School System, she started in a one-room school in the Jones Community. Alvera graduated from the Caswell County Training School, "Class of 1950."

Mrs. Alvera worked as a Domestic Farm Laborer only to retire from Davis Linen Service (Servitex) after 30 years of service. After retiring and the grandbabies started school, she found employment with the Black Caucus who placed her at Sunvale and Suncrest Apartments as the Secretary. Later she worked at the Tog Shop (2 Heart Thrift Store).

She was a Fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, the Chairman for the Piedmont Triad Aging Council, Advisory Board President for the Caswell County Senior Center, Funding Committee Member, embracing everything that the Senior Center had to offer. Mrs. Alvera could be found there every day except for Wednesdays (This day was set aside as her rest day, hairdo, and Walmart day).

Mrs. Alvera Lambert Lea Lipscomb was married to the late William Howard Lipscomb, and the mother of five children, Wanda L. Taylor, Annie R. Lea, and Mary Joyce Lea of the home; Deacon William Lamont (Tajuana) Lea of Richmond, Virginia; and Del Montea Lea who preceded her in death. A grandmother to eight grandchildren; Keith D. (Teresa)Taylor, Jessica A. Lea, Jamal M. Lea, Michael (Mallory) Harris, Jahrome Bennett, Kiya Bennett, Nakia (Tungi) Lawrence, and Kenyah Leftridge; eight great-grandchildren, Keith D. Taylor, II, Jari M. Lea, Zaahir Lea, Aaron Bennett, Elijah Bennett, Angel and Andrea Watson; two sisters-in-law, Lossie Pearl Lea, and Ruth Lea; her god-children, Joan (John Wayne) Brandon, Terry (Pattie) Nunnally, Gloria McGhee, Jeannine Everidge, Vickie (Marvin) Siddle, Ellis Allen, and Quenton (Janette) Walton; and her fussing phone buddy, Clyde Chandler; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.
