Danville, VA - Annie Delois Jones Hughes, of Danville, Virginia, peacefully transitioned on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at The Barclay at Tuckahoe in Richmond, Virginia.
Born on June 20, 1950, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Elvin Jones and the late Corine Garland Jones. She was married to the late Curtis Hughes, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Earnest Lee Jones.
Annie was truly an instrument of the Lord. She shared her gift of music as a vocalist in church choirs, most notably with the Voices of Inspiration, where her voice uplifted and inspired many. Her faith was not only something she believed, but something she lived and expressed through song and service.
She also expressed her love through the gift of hospitality. Annie found great joy in cooking and catering for family gatherings and special events, using her hands and heart to bring people together. Whether in her home or for others, her meals were filled with love, warmth, and generosity—an extension of her caring spirit.
Professionally, she worked as a teller at First State Bank, dedicated over twenty years of service to the Credit Bureau of Danville and Greensboro, and later worked as a lab technician at Danville Regional Hospital, where she served with diligence and care.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who loved her family deeply. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughters, Dr. Coretta Necole Streat (Kevin) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and Allison Hughes of Richmond, Virginia; two cherished grandchildren, Nyia Willis and Oshae Willis; one dear sister, Betty Jefferies (Dabney) of Blanch, North Carolina; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and Tiffany Daniel, who Annie loved and embraced as a daughter.
She was known for her strength, quiet grace, and unwavering love for her family. Her life reflected resilience, care, and a deep-rooted faith that sustained her through every season. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will continue to live on in all who knew her.
The family will receive friends at the visitation and viewing at the church one hour before the service.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 538 Central Boulevard, Danville, Virginia 24541. A professionally catered repast will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic church.
