Eden, NC - It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Mrs. Betty Clark Smith, who peacefully transitioned on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at her residence in Eden, North Carolina. Born on December 14, 1945, to Warren Clark, Sr. and Ruby Mae Dillard Clark in Axton, Virginia, Betty was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She touched many lives with her loving and generous spirit.
Betty was a talented beautician who worked at Smith Beauty Salon, where her skilled hands and warm personality brought beauty and joy to all who knew her. A proud 1964 graduate of the George Washington Carver High School in Fieldale, Virginia, Betty went on to complete her studies in cosmetology at Lamae Beauty College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Her passion for her craft and dedication to her clients was evident in every aspect of her work.
A devoted wife, Betty shared a loving marriage with her husband, Melvin Smith, Sr., of the home. Her unwavering faith and commitment to the Lord were evident in her lifelong dedication to the Holiness faith. Betty was a faithful member of Gospel Light Holiness Church in Axton, Virginia, where she served in several capacities, including as the Mother of the church, a choir member, and a diligent bookkeeper. Her devotion to her church and its members was a testament to her deep love for God and His people.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Melvin Smith, Sr.; one son, Melvin Smith II (Tina) of Bowie, MD; one brother, Warren Clark Jr. of Eden, NC; two sisters, Lorene Hairston (Lyn) of Martinsville, VA, and Beatrice Clark Hampton (Bobby) of Sandy Level, VA; one brother-in-law, Homer Junior Smith of High Point, NC; two sisters-in-law, Joann Smith of Eden, NC, and Darlene Hollowell of Eden, NC; three granddaughters, Tiye Smith, Trinity Smith, and Destiny Smith; one step-granddaughter, Janay Morgan; all of Bowie, MD; one grandson, Melvin Smith III of Bowie, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
The memory of Betty's selflessness, warmth, and nurturing spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her life was a beautiful reflection of the love and grace of God.

Though Betty is no longer with us, her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will remain a guiding light for all who knew her. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Public viewing for Mrs. Betty Clark Smith will be on Tuesday, September 3, 2024; from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fulton-Walton Memorial Chapel 417 Price Street, Eden, NC.
Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Clark Smith will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Gospel Ligh Holiness Church in Axton, Va., with family visitation from 12:30 to 1:00 pm. before funeral service.
Interment will follow in Gospel Light Holiness Church Cemetery.
