Eden, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mrs. Earlean Virginia Hairston Martin of 522 Glovenia St. Eden, North Carolina. She passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Ancora Compassionate Care Hospice Home in Wentworth, North Carolina.
Earlean was born on August 18, 1927, in Eden, North Carolina to the late Elder Raymond Hairston, Sr., and Lois Scales Hairston. She was the eldest of nine children and attended Douglas High School in Leaksville, now known as Eden, North Carolina. Earlean joined Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church at a young age, later transferring her membership to Gospel Light United Holiness Church under Lettie Cohen's leadership. She remained a longtime devoted and faithful, member of Gospel Light United Holiness Church until her declining health. She was the oldest member of the congregation prior to her passing.
She was a domestic employee before starting her employment in textiles at Fieldcrest Cannon and Spray Cotton Mills in Eden, North Carolina. Later, she worked at Levi Strauss in Greensboro, North Carolina, held a supervisory position at several group homes, and finally worked at Roanoke Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.
In addition to her parents, Earlean was preceded in death by her husband Nathaniel Martin, her son Jerry Hairston, and her daughter Cecilia Jackson. She was also preceded by her siblings Reverend Fredderick Hairston, Raymond Hairston Jr., Bobby Ray Hairston, Mary A. Moyer, Maxine Witcher, Dorothy Hairston, and Emma Gray Hairston, as well as three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Earlean Virginia Hairston Martin leaves to cherish her memories with her loving children Theresa Galloway of Greensboro, North Carolina, Willie “Bill” Hairston of Eden, North Carolina, Linda Hampton of Eden, North Carolina, and Brenda Hampton of Woodbridge, Virginia; her beloved sister Gladioa Hampton of Axton, Virginia; along with her 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and special friends of the family.
A public viewing for Mrs. Earlean Virginia Hairston Martin will be on Saturday, April 05, 2025; from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. the family will be present for from 5pm to 7 pm at Gospel Light Holiness Church in Axton, Va.
A family visitation viewing for Mrs. Earlean Virginia Hairston Martin will be on Sunday, April 06, 2025, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Fulton-Walton Memorial Eden Chapel; 417 Price Street, Eden, NC.
Funeral services for Mrs. Earlean Virginia Hairston Martin will be conducted at 2:00pm, Sunday, April 06, 2025, at Fulton-Walton Memorial Eden Chapel; 417 Price Street, Eden, NC.
Interment will follow at Hamlin Cemetery Blue Creek in Eden, NC.
