Yanceyville, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announced the death of Mrs. Effie Mangum Williams age 89 of 495 Pallie Watlington Road, in Yanceyville, North Carolina. She passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at SOVAH Health in Danville, Virginia.

Mrs. Effie was the beloved daughter of the late McCallister Mangum and Lucy Turner Mangum Slade, born on July 28, 1936, in Caswell County, North Carolina.

As a native and lifelong resident of Caswell County, North Carolina, she received her education at the local public schools and was a graduate of the Caswell Training School, Class of 1953 in Yanceyville, North Carolina.

Mrs. Effie worked in Laundry for two years. She furthered her working career by joining and retiring from the textile workforce after thirty-two years, at Dan River Mills in Danville, Virginia and Glen Raven Mills in Burlington, North Carolina. In 2002 Mrs. Effie career path changed to where she worked for four years and retired from Rainbow Daycare in Yanceyville, North Carolina. Mrs. Effie believed in having a committed work ethic, humility, and strength that she displayed in every aspect of her life.

She joined Blackwell Missionary Baptist Church early in life, serving during her youthful years as a Youth Sunday School Teacher that her late mother once taught. She continued to faithfully serve her church well into adulthood as a Deaconess, Missionary, Senior Choir Member, Vacation Bible School Secretary, and later as an Adult Sunday School Teacher. She actively supported her church, the community, and extended quiet sweet acts of generosity.

Mrs. Effie was united in marriage to the late Ernest Edgar Williams, Sr. Together, they built a union rooted in family, devotion, and perseverance. Their marriage was blessed with eight children. Mrs. Effie’s favorite pastimes were spending time with her family, going to family gatherings, and continuously reading God’s Word which she believed kept her youthful and kept her going. Since the age of seven one of Mrs. Effie’s talents were baking for family and the community, especially her delicious Red Velvet, German Chocolate, and Strawberry Cakes with filling. Another talent was sewing, which she took pride in sewing all her children’s clothing from suits to evening gowns.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Effie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ernest Edgar Williams, Sr., her daughter Edith Centonze, and her son Ernest Edgar Williams, Jr.; her five brothers John Lea, Thurston, Walter Robert, Larry, and Percy Mangum.

Mrs. Effie Mangum Williams left an awesome legacy of Godly love, kindness to cherish her memory for those that come behind her, including her two daughters Connie Cover of Yanceyville, North Carolina, and Veronica Rodgers (Ronnell) of Danville, Virginia; her four sons Thomas Williams (Virginia), Barney Williams (Brenda) all of Ruffin, North Carolina, Jeffrey Williams (Tina) of Danville, Virginia, and Carlton Williams (Shelia) of Burlington, North Carolina; her two sisters Lula Helms of Reidsville, North Carolina, and Veronica Coletrane of Yanceyville, North Carolina; her brother McRae Mangum (Janie) of Gibsonville, North Carolina; her son-in-law Robert Centonze of Pelham, North Carolina; her seventeen grandchildren; thirty three great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many cherished friends. Her family will honor her memory by carrying forward the principles she lived by standing firm in faith, showing kindness without hesitation, and keeping the bonds of family unbroken.

A public viewing for Mrs. Effie Mangum Williams will be on Tuesday, December 16, 2025; from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the John and Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home.

A Family visitation viewing for Mrs. Effie Mangum Williams will be on Wednesday, December 17, 2025; from 1:30p.m. to 2:00p.m. at Blackwell Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral service for Mrs. Effie Mangum Williams will be conducted at 2:00pm on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Blackwell Missionary Baptist Church.

Interment will follow in Blackwell Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Yanceyville, NC.
