Blanch, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mrs. Florence Poteat Scott of 580 Zimmerman Road in Blanch, North Carolina. She passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025, at SOVAH Health in Danville, Virginia.
Florence was the beloved daughter of the late Nathaniel Poteat and Lucretia Moore Poteat, who was born in Caswell County, North Carolina on November 03, 1944.
As a native and lifelong resident of Caswell County, she attended the local public schools. Florence received her certification as Certified Nursing Assistance “CNA” which allowed her to help others, in the healthcare industry for over thirty-five years. She took pride in being a CNA formerly known as the Brian Center in Yanceyville, North Carolina prior to her retirement. She also was a member of Hamer Missionary Baptist Church in Blanch, North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Scott, Jr., her sisters Patricia Poteat, Mary Brown, Ester McGhee; and her brothers Edward, Woodrow, and Marvin Poteat.
Mrs. Florence Poteat Scott leaves to cherish her memories with her three daughters Felicia Corbett of Burlington, North Carolina, Katryna Dixon of Danville, Virginia, and Amanda Scott-Slaton (Monrae) of Mebane, North Carolina; her two sons, John Alfred Scott (Jean) of Reidsville, North Carolina, and Darrell Scott of Blanch, North Carolina; her sister Betty Jean Merriman of Arlington, Virginia; and three brothers Henry Poteat of Reidsville, North Carolina, Michael Poteat of Danville, Virginia, and David Poteat of Yanceyville, North Carolina; three grandchildren Shaahida Akbar, Medina Akbar, and Savion Scott and one great-grandchild Cairo Ballard; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many cherished friends.
Public viewing for Mrs. Florence Poteat Scott will be on Friday, September 19, 2025; from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the John and Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Florence Poteat Scott will be conducted at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Hamer Missionary Baptist Church in Blanch, NC; with Pastor Daniel Elmore delivering the “Words of Comfort”.
Interment will follow at Hamer Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Blanch, NC.
