Danville, Va. - Mrs. Geneva Royster Blackwell, 90, of 572 William Drive, Danville, Virginia, peacefully transitioned on August 30, 2024, at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born on June 7, 1934, in Caswell County, she was the beloved daughter of the late Lewis Royster and Zell Stewart Royster. Geneva was married to the late John Blackwell, with whom she shared a loving and devoted marriage.
Geneva was a woman of profound faith, living a life dedicated to serving the Lord and her community. She was a cherished member of Word of Faith Apostolic Church, where she faithfully served as a missionary and musician. Her love for music extended beyond her church, as she also played the piano for Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Semora, NC, and Olive Hill Baptist Church in Person County, NC, touching the hearts of many with her musical talents.
Throughout her career, Geneva was known for her compassion and love for children. She worked at Rainbow Daycare Center in Yanceyville, NC, where she nurtured and cared for countless young lives until her retirement. In addition to her parents and husband, Geneva was predeceased by three sisters, Lois Elmore, Pauline Elmore, and Annie Farmer, and three brothers, Robert Garland, James Phelps, and Ivy Royster.
Geneva leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her devoted son, Elder James Royster (Sharon) of Danville, VA; six grandchildren: Selisecia Royster of Charlotte, NC, Jarious Royster of Danville, VA, Jimmy Sutherlin of Timber Ville, VA, Jameelah Stone of Danville, VA, Latashia Crump of Danville, VA, and Stanwanda Walton of Danville, VA. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Elliott of Milton, NC; two sister-in-law, Edith Royster of Milton, NC and Monnie Blackwell of Roxboro, NC and a niece, Linda Johnston (Keith), whom she fondly called “Girl.” Geneva's special cousin, Alease Leftwich, whom she regarded as her baby sister, will deeply feel her loss. Geneva’s memory will also be cherished by a host nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; other relatives, church members, and friends.

Geneva Royster Blackwell will be deeply missed, but her spirit and the love she shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A viewing will be Thursday, September 5, 2024; from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the John & Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home.
Funeral service for Mrs. Geneva Royster Blackwell will be Friday, September 6, 2024, 1:00 pm at Word of Faith Apostolic Church, Milton, NC. Family visitation will be from 12:30pm to 1:00 pm before funeral service. Pastor Edward Breedlove will deliver the words of comfort. Interment will follow in the Word of Faith Apostolic Church Cemetery, Milton, NC.
