Born April 16, 1938, Mae Fannie Morrison Hairston departed this life in Eden, NC on September 16, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Johnny Morrison and Ruth Hairston Morrison Tunstall. Mae was educated in the Pittsylvania County School system, and later was employed at Fieldcrest Mills for over thirty years. She began her spiritual journey at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Cascade, VA, where she faithfully served for six decades. She sang in the Gospel Chorus, and served as president for thirty years. One of her signature songs was “Somebody Touched Me”. Mae was well known for her love for singing and cooking. Her greatest gift was her love and compassion for others. Her home was recognized as a den of hospitality by many. In 2018, she united with Calvary Christian Center in Greensboro, NC under the leadership of her son, Dr. Vince Hairston, where she served in the Jubilee Choir and the Senior Adult Ministry until her health failed. Mae was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Robert Lee Hairston; parents Johnny and Ruth Morrison; three sons, Keven Lamar, Eric Rochelle, and Lloyd Desmond Hairston. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Peggy Long, Rachel Brimmer, and Barbara Jean Wilson. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Cynthia Stratton (Darryl), Wayne, NJ, Ricky Hairston (Carolyn), Greensboro, NC, Sylvia Knight (Jeffrey), Raleigh, NC, Robert "Greg" Hairston, Eden, NC, Vince Hairston (Cheryl), Summerfield, NC, Iris Grady (James), Charlotte, NC, and Kamieka Hairston, Sacramento, CA; fifteen grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren. and one great-great grandchild; sister Catherine Keen of Danville, VA, and brothers Robert Morrison, Cascade, VA, and Roosevelt Morrison, Danville, VA; sisters-in-law Shirley Thomas, Cascade, VA, Louise Hamlett, Danville, VA, and Cordie Mae Hairston, Ringgold, VA; and brother-in-law Harvey Wilson.
A public viewing for Mrs. Mae Fannie Morrison Hairston will be on Friday, September 20, 2024; from 2 pm to 7 pm with the family present from 5 pm to 7 pm at Fulton-Walton Memorial Chapel 417 Price Street, Eden, NC.
Family visitation for Mrs. Mae Fannie Morrison Hairston will be on Saturday, September 21, 2024; from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 13602 Martinsville Hwy. Cascade, Va.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Mae Fannie Morrison Hairston will be conducted Saturday, September 21, 2024; at 1 pm at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, with interment in the John Ryle Hairston Family Cemetery, Huntington Trail (Rt 621) Cascade, Va.
