Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Long Jeffers Hunter

Mt. Vernon, NY - it is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Long Jeffers Hunter of  7 Jackson Street, Mt. Vernon, New York. She passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at her residence.

Mary was the daughter of the late Mae Francis Long born on June 29, 1933; in Caswell County, North Carolina. She was raised by her maternal grandmother, Minnie Long.

At an early age, Mary was a member of Hamer Missionary Baptist Church in Blanch, North Carolina.

She attended the local public schools and shortly afterward she relocated to New York. Being skilled and talented as a Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN), Mary worked in various hospitals and nursing homes before her retirement.

In addition to her mother and grandmother, she was preceded in death by her three children; LaVern Jeffers, Eric Hunter, and Dennis Jeffers; her special aunts; Leola Long, Hattie James, Bertha Long Woods, and Willie Long Randolph.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Long Jeffers Hunter leaves to cherish her memories with her son: Irving Jeffers (Vanessa) of Mt. Vernon, New York; her two daughters; Margretta Jeffers Bowen of New Rochelle, New York, and Drucilla Hunter Vives (Luther) of Aberdeen, Maryland; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives, and friends.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Long Jeffers Hunter will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 29, 2024; at Hamer Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Blanch, North Carolina.
