Reidsville, NC - Mother Pauline P. Barnett, affectionately known as, “Grandma Paul,” was born on August 16, 1924, to the late James and Minnie W. Pankey in Appomattox, VA. Following a period of brief illness, she departed this life on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at her residence in Reidsville, NC, and was called to her heavenly home.
She was the first of four children and was educated in the public school system in Ruffin, NC. She was employed by Rockingham County School System for 28 years. After retirement, she moved to Ringgold, VA to assist with the care of her mother until she passed away.
Mother Barnett loved spending time with her family. She was known for being loving, kind, and always giving. She desired to make sure that her children were taken care of, even if she had to go without. She would tell you that her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Though she loved her family, she also loved to go fishing. No one could pull out a bass as big as Mother Barnett. She was a tight-line fisher, telling you, “Give me 15 minutes and this bucket is going to be full!”
Mother Barnett loved church, and she loved praising God. She joined Mount Herman Baptist Church in Ruffin, NC at an early age. After a deeper revelation of salvation, she was baptized in Jesus’ name and joined Apostolic Faith Temple in Ringgold, Virginia, under the leadership of the late Suffragan Bishop Willie A. Watkins. There, she joined the missionary circle and sang in the senior choir. Her favorite song was, “Down Through the Years, God ‘s Been Good to Me.” After the transition of Suffragan Bishop Watkins, Mother Barnett joined Word of Faith, Life Changing Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Lucille Hunt. She served faithfully until her health declined.
Mother Pauline Barnett was preceded in death by her late husband, Walter R. Barnett, Sr. Three children: Margaret A. Burnette, Janie V. Watlington, and Walter R. Barnett, Jr. Two sisters: Juanita McGhee and Evang. Ruby Conley; One brother: James Pankey
Those left to cherish her unforgettable memories include five children: Stephen Barnett (Shelby), of Yanceyville, NC; Anthony Barnett, Patricia Schoefield, Min. Evelyn Jones, and Wanda Murphy of Reidsville, NC. Mother Barnett also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 15 great, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
