Pelham, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mrs. Ruby Blackwell Harrelson age 96 of Mineral Springs Road, Pelham, North Carolina. She passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Mrs. Ruby Blackwell Harrelson was born on February 27, 1929, to the late Willard Blackwell and Ida Pearl Weatherford Blackwell of Caswell County, North Carolina.
She attended the local Caswell County schools. Ruby was of the Christian faith and joined Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. She was the Church Mother, a Senior Choir member, and served on the Bereavement Kitchen Committee, where she was known for baking her wonderful sweet potato pies even in her past time for family and friends. Ruby was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 210.
Ruby worked for several years at Dogwood Forest #2 Rest Home. She then moved on and began working at Alice Educational Wonderland where she retired. She loved her church family and her family, but she especially loved the holidays and never missed acknowledging her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s birthdays.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband McCoy Harrelson, Sr.; grandson Kory Lee Michael Harrelson; three sisters Barbara Blackwell, Elosie B. Pritchett, and Berrie B. Gwynn; and four brothers Artway, Curtis, Beverly, and Edgar Blackwell.
Mrs. Ruby Blackwell Harrelson leaves to cherish her memories with her children McCoy Harrelson, Jr. (Betty), Leroy Harrelson (Mary) all of Pelham, North Carolina; Wiley Harrelson (Martina) of Germany, Kenneth Harrelson (Vickie) of the home, Teresa Johnson (Reverend Bobby Johnson) of Eden, North Carolina, Linda F. Totten (Bobby) of Reidsville, North Carolina; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Her surviving sisters are Dorothy B. Williamson of Ruffin, North Carolina, and Obie B. Saunders of Danville, Virginia, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many cherished friends.
The family will receive visitors at 940 Mineral Springs Road in Pelham, NC 27311.
Public viewing for Mrs. Ruby Blackwell Harrelson will be on Friday, February 06, 2026; from 2:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. in the John and Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Family visitation for Mrs. Ruby Blackwell Harrelson will be on Saturday, February 07, 2026; from 1:30p.m. to 2:00p.m. at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church, in Pelham, NC.
Funeral service for Mrs. Ruby Blackwell Harrelson will be conducted at 2:00p.m. on Saturday, February 07, 2026, at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church, in Pelham, NC. Pastor Gregory Hopkins will deliver the “Words of Comfort”.
Interment will follow at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Pelham, NC.
