Mebane, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Ms. Esther Margaret Poteat McGhee of 277 South 11th Street, Mebane, North Carolina. She passed away on Friday, August 01, 2025, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Esther of Caswell County, North Carolina was the daughter of the late Nathaniel Poteat and Lucretica Moore Poteat, born on July 03,1947.
She received her education at the Caswell County public schools. Shortly afterwards, Esther farmed alongside of working in the textile industry prior to her retirement. Esther dedicated her life to Jesus Christ at a young age, where she was a member of Hamer Missionary Baptist Church in Blanch, North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her husband John Adam McGhee, her two sisters Mary Delois Brown, and Patricia Poteat, and her three brothers Woodrow Poteat, Marvin Poteat, and Edward Poteat.
Ms. Esther Margaret Poteat McGhee leaves to cherish her memories with her three daughters Lesia Blackwell of Yanceyville, North Carolina, Angel Day of Haw River, North Carolina, and Vanessa Parker of Chadbourn, North Carolina; her two sons Ronnie Poteat of Mebane, North Carolina, and James McGhee of Burlington, North Carolina; two sisters Florence Scott and Betty Jane Florence both of Milton, North Carolina; three brothers David Poteat of Yanceyville, North Carolina, Michael Poteat of Danville, Virginia, and Henry Poteat of Reidsville, North Carolina, her eight grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many cherished friends.
A public viewing for Ms. Esther Margaret Poteat McGhee will be on Friday, August 08, 2025; from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the John and Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home.
Funeral Services for Ms. Esther Margaret Poteat McGhee will be conducted at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 09, 2025; in the John and Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Hamer Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Blanch, NC.
