Ms. Maryum Elizabeth Shabazz Obituary

Milton, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Ms. Maryum Elizabeth Lea Shabazz 88 of Milton, North Carolina. She was called home by our heavenly Father on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Person Memorial Hospital in Roxboro, North Carolina.

Maryum, the beloved daughter of the late Ophelia Elizabeth Lea Allen, was born on January 07, 1938; in Caswell County, Blanch, North Carolina. She was blessed to have her stepfather the late Charlie James Allen and her late great aunt Mary Jackson to raise her.

She received her education from the local public school system and the Caswell County Training School in Yanceyville, North Carolina. Maryum continued her education by receiving her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). She provided hands-on activities of daily living (ADLs) for patients or residents who could not complete them independently due to illness, disability, and/or age-related decline. At an early age Maryum joined River Zion Baptist Church, in Blanch, North Carolina.

Maryum moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1966, where she was employed at Bolton Hill Randallstown Nursing Home and the Maryland Home as a Resident Council. She organized meetings, facilitated communication between residents and management, and advocated for their community needs. Afterwards, in 1982, her skills and talents blossomed so much that Maryum became an entrepreneur by opening a Care Adult Assistant Living Shelter in her home. She shared her talents with many in the community by helping others, which led to enlarging Maryum business from two or more additional homes. Despite her hard work she managed to stay in touch with her family, and special friends. During her stay in Maryland Maryum attended Colonial Baptist Church until she relocated back to Caswell County and her home church in 2005. Upon her return she served on the Intermediate Choir, and the Missionary Circle in the Milton community, where she enjoyed getting reacquainted with her family and friends.

In addition to her mother, stepfather, and great aunt, Maryum was preceded in death by her two brothers Jake Lea, and Robert Clyde Allen, Sr.

Ms. Maryum Elizabeth Shabazz leaves to cherish her memories with her sister Linda Ann Allen of Milton, North Carolina; her god-daughter LaTasha Lassiter Johnson of Baltimore, Maryland; her   special cousins Elizabeth Wynolia Lea, and Hope Roxanne Lea both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; her seven nieces Shelia Jeffers, Danielle Jeffers, Georganna Hairston, Shelia Womack, all of Danville, Virginia, Daisy Clements (Willie) of Petersburg, Virginia, Sheva Allen of San Antonio, Texas, and Vanessa Anderson (Bill) of Richmond, Virginia; her two great-nieces Shaundra Thomas (Richard) of Danville, Virginia, and Dawnisha Glass of Richmond, Virginia; her nephew Robert Clyde Allen, Jr. of Washington, DC; her bonus niece Cheryl Kenner of Baltimore, Maryland; her two bonus nephews Phillip Allen, Jr. of Baltimore, Maryland, and Irvin Long of Brandywine, Maryland; her four great-nephews Jaylen Womack, Jamari Whittell, Jakari, and Jaden Thomas all of Danville, Virginia; and a host of other loving relatives, extended family, and many cherished friends.
