Yanceyville, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Ms. Onnie Mae Southern of 3332 Highway 86 North Lot 2, Yanceyville, North Carolina. She passed away on Sunday, July 07, 2024, at her residence.
Born on May 07, 1945, Onnie Mae was the cherished daughter of the late Napoleon Slade and Lenora Hunt Southern in Caswell County, North Carolina. She was also raised by her stepfather, the late James Robert Southern (Also Known As “Dick Southern”).
Onnie Mae attended the Caswell County Public School system. Afterwards she received her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license and became an employee at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Nursing Facility (Currently Yanceyville Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center) in Yanceyville, North Carolina.
She was a former member of Zion Gates Holiness Church in Yanceyville, North Carolina, where she was an usher. Later Onnie Mae joined Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she was a choir member.
In addition to her parents, Onnie Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher Columbus Southern (Also Known As “Fat Man”); one nephew that she raised that respectfully called her mom, Michael Lea, her sister, Jacqueline Maxine Lea; and her three brothers, Henry, John, and Robert Southern.
Ms. Onnie Mae Southern leaves to cherish her loving memories with her two daughters, Joyce Southern of McLeansville, NC, and Bettie Jean Southern of Yanceyville, NC, her three nephews that she raised that respectfully called her mom, Sam Southern, Anthony Southern both of Yanceyville, NC, and Maurice Southern (AKA “Pebbles”) of Burlington, NC; her eleven sisters, Deanne Southern, Betty Lea Southern, Treva Farrish all of Yanceyville, NC, Athea Farrish of Burlington, NC, Joyce Slade of Ruffin, NC, Dorothy Blackstock (Oliver) of Stoneville, NC, Susan Jefferies (Jerry) of Bluffton, SC, Rita Farrish, Sylvia Slade, Mary Noell and Janie Slade all of Pelham, NC; her six brothers, Quincy Farrish of Yanceyville, NC, Andy Farrish of Burlington, NC, James Slade of Dry Fork, VA, Billy Slade of Woodbridge, VA, Robert Slade (Karen) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Joseph Slade (Stephanie) of Greensboro, NC; her thirteen grandchildren; her two aunts, Juanita Brim, of Milton, NC and Mary B. Adams of Danville, VA; a special niece, Patricia Currie of Mebane, NC; and a special nephew, Darrell Hamlett (AKA “Woo Woo”) of Raleigh, NC; a special cousin Carolyn Southern of Yanceyville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends whose lives she touched.
A Public viewing for Ms. Onnie Mae Southern will be on Saturday, July 13, 2024; from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the John and Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral.
Funeral Services for Ms. Onnie Mae Southern will be conducted at 2:00pm on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Providence, North Carolina.
