Greensboro, NC - It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Mrs. Nellie (Chubb) Johnson Bowe Miles of 409 Apple Ridge Rd. Greensboro, NC, who passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020 at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Calvin Johnson and Janie Louise Pride Johnson born June 13, 1944 in Weldon, NC. She was self-employed as an outstanding Seamtress. At an early age she joined the Hester Grove Baptist Church of Hurdle Mills, NC and later in life became a member of the Sassafras Grove Baptist Church in Yanceyville, NC.
Chubb graduated from the Extended Day Program in 1979. She was the founder of the Lady Action Committee which was formed in 1976, a member of the Traveletts Singing Group, Owner of Chubb’s Cabin and the Fluffetts. She was the first pioneer for the Thomas Day Program in Caswell County. She also worked with the Laura Snead Historical Foundation in Durham, NC.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Phyllis Marie Johnson, two brothers, Artis Pride and Gene Johnson; one sister, Bessie Johnson Oliver, and one grandchild, Josiah Bowe.
Her survivors are her husband, Garry Miles; one daughter, Penny Bowe-Diouf (Kenny); one son, Tommie Lea Bowe, Jr. (Victoria) of the home, four adopted daughters, Rena Hicks of Danville, VA; Janice Marie Williamson of the home, Modi Shittu of Greensboro, NC and Denise Henderson (Melvin) of Ruffin, NC, one sister, Mary Day (Joseph) of Pelham, NC; two brothers, William Johnson (Nettie) and Roy Johnson of Providence, NC; one grandson, Justin Josiah Bowe; one granddaughter, Antionette Evette Hunt; one great granddaughter, Lily Bowe; one great grandson, Charles Cason; one brother-in-law, Jerry Oliver and one sister-in-law, Jean Pride.
Due to the constraints of public gatherings during the COVID-19 outbreak a viewing will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary at Sassafras Grove Baptist Church with a limit of 10 people at a time. Please remember to follow CDC guidelines with everyone wearing protective gloves and masks.
Graveside Service will be Saturday , July 18, 2020 7:15 pm at Sassafras Grove Baptist Church Cemetery .
