Milton, NC – It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Reverend Floyd Charlie Lee Standfield of 400 Culver Rd. Milton, NC, who passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
Reverend Floyd Charlie Lee Standfield was the third of 6 children born to the late James and Minerva Jeffress Standfield on September 26, 1939, in Halifax County, Virginia. Floyd grew up in the Cunningham area of Semora, North Carolina, with his parents and siblings. As a young child, Floyd enjoyed spending time with his siblings, cousins, and friends. He often bragged about driving the school bus as a young lad and being the teacher's pet. He was educated in the Person County public school system.
Floyd met the love of his life, Juanita House (Sugga Puddin), in Newark, New Jersey, and was blown away by her beauty and her cooking. They were united in marriage on June 30, 1962. To this union, two daughters were born: Joyce and Monica.
Floyd was the epitome of a hard worker. He farmed and raised livestock while working third shift jobs at Good Year Tire and Rubber Company, Danville, VA until he retired November 20, 2001. Even though he worked several jobs, he always had time to spend with his wife and children. He enjoyed taking them camping, to amusement parks, or just playing with them in the yard.
He especially enjoyed spending time with his siblings, Doris, Mary, the late Lou Ella, and Sewell. The true meaning of brotherhood was expressed in his time spent with his late brother Arthur Standfield, working on lawn mowers, rental properties, or just telling each other what to do and how to do it. You would often see him waiting for Arthur to get home as if he’d been waiting for his best friend all day. If one was working on something, the other one always pitched in. He also looked forward to his nephews spending the summers with him and the benefits of free labor in the tobacco fields.
Floyd joined Greater Brandon Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at a young age and was a faithful member who served as a deacon, member of the male chorus, and the illuminating choir until he was called to pastor Pleasant Chapel Baptist Church.
Floyd was licensed and ordained to preach the gospel on March 18, 1984, at Greater Brandon Chapel Missionary Baptist Church by the late Rev. Dr. HR Surgeon. He was installed as pastor of the Pleasant Chapel Baptist Church on May 12, 1985. He served as Pastor of Pleasant Chapel Baptist Church for 22 years. Led by the Holy Spirit, God gave him the vision to build a new sanctuary. With the willingness and help of the people, they broke ground in 2005 and moved into the new sanctuary in 2006. Under his pastoralship, he licensed and ordained many sons and daughters in the ministry.
Left to cherish his memories is his loving and devoted wife of the home, Juanita Standfield. Two daughters, Joyce Samuel, and Monica Crews (Tommy a devoted son-in-law) both of Milton NC, grandchildren Tommy Crews Jr “Tj” (Elizabeth) of Yanceyville NC, Shanetta Lawson (Greg), Alan Samuel, and William Samuel of Milton NC. 5 great-grandchildren: Laila-Rose Crews of Yanceyville NC, Mariah Lawson of Milton NC, Trey Lawson of Milton NC, Nola-Blaire Crews of Yanceyville NC, Isaiah Lawson of Milton NC. Two devoted Sisters Mary Flora of Montclair, New Jersey, and Doris Hughes of Newark, New Jersey. One devoted sister-in-law and caregiver, Rose Standfield of Danville, VA. One Godson James Carter Jr (Katrina) of Reidsville, NC. Two special children that he helped rear, Linda “Bunny” Coles (Jarvis) of Danville, VA, and Edward Clayborne (Bessie) of Danville, VA. One sister-in-law of Danville, VA, Bessie Simmons. Two sisters-in-law of Boydton, VA, Joyce Austin (Joseph) and Loretta Watkins (Milton) One brother-in-law, Calvin House (Betty) of Kittrell, NC. A loving and devoted friend and nurse, Patricia Pickard, and two adopted grandsons, Ryan and Corey Pickard.
He loved his nieces and nephews and had a special place in his heart for his nieces, Doris and Erica Standfield, who visited him often, and Curtis Flora, who cared for him during his later days. He also left behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his granddaughter, Tomica Nicole Crews, two brothers, James Sewell Standfield and Arthur Harold Standfield, and one sister, Lou Ella Robinson.
