Ponzella Lea Williams

Leasburg, NC - It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Ms. Ponzella Lea Williams of 3361 Solomon Lea Road, Leasburg, NC who passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Person Memorial Hospital, Roxboro, NC.

Ponzella was born on September 10, 1934 in Leasburg North Carolina; to the late George Lea and Rosa Snipes Lea.

Ponzella graduated from Caswell County High School in Yanceyville, NC. Afterwards she attended NC A& T Beauty School in Greensboro, NC; where she received her Cosmetology licensure. She styled hair in the Yanceyville, NC community for many years.

While working in Yanceyville, Ponzella met the love of her life, Willie Edward Williams “Fats”. February 11, 1956 they were joined in holy matrimony, and to their union were 8 beautiful children. After marriage and prior to retirement (January 1991) she was also an employee of Cone Mills textile company in Greensboro, NC.

Ponzella was a faithful member of Saint James Missionary Baptist Church in Leasburg, NC. She later moved her membership to East New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Danville, VA; where she also was a faithful member.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Ponzella was preceded in death by two sons, Derrick Williams, and Marty Williams, ten brothers, Fonza Lea, Hunter Lea, Hurbert Lea, Thaddeus Lea, George Lea, McCollum Lea, Floyd Lea, Fitzgerald Lea, Harry Lea, and Curtis Lea; three sisters, Estelle Johnson, Camilla Lea, and Rosa Lea.

Ms. Ponzella Lea Williams leaves her cherished memories to one son, Willie Williams, Jr., (Elanore) of Burlington, NC; five daughters, Cynthia McGee (Henry), Pamela Hatchett (Nathan), Tynica Shaw (Barry), Shenica Scott (Christopher), LeKisha Williams Hairston (Landry) all of Leasburg, NC; one brother, Clyde Lea (Phyllis) of Greensboro, NC; one daughter-in-law; Angela Hughes of Leasburg, NC; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; a loving neighbor and best-friend, Catherine Johnson; and a host of other relatives, and friends.

A viewing will be Sunday from 2 to 7 pm in the Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home. Family will be present from 3-4pm.

Visitation for Ms. Ponzella Lea Williams will be from 12:30-1:00pm Monday, December 20, 2021, at the Caswell County Civic Center in Yanceyville, NC.

Funeral Services for Ms. Ponzella Lea Williams will be Monday, December 20, 2021, at 1:00 pm at the Caswell County Civic Center in Yanceyville, NC. Pastor Rodney Coleman will deliver the words of comfort. Pastor Rufus Fuller will be presiding. Interment will follow in the Lea Williams Cemetery in Leasburg, NC.
