Abington, PA – It is profound sorrow we announce the death of Raymond Edward Miller, Sr. age 92, who passed away on October 9, 2022, at Jefferson Abington Hospital, Abington, Pennsylvania.
Raymond was born the son of Freeman Miller and Mary Elizabeth Miller on November 2, 1929.
Raymond was a proud Army veteran, who was drafted into service in 1951 following high school, where he served in both Korea and Europe. Upon his return from duty, he took up carpentry as a trade, and launched multiple entrepreneurial opportunities as a carpet and floor-tile salesman, a home window businessman, home radiator servicer, and even as a transportation agent. He was the first “officially recognized” minority contractor in the city of Philadelphia.
Raymond was a believer in Jesus Christ, and was a faithful member of Salem Baptist Church, Abington, Pennsylvania. He was also an avid jazz fan and enjoyed playing golf with his son.
In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by the love of his life, wife Rosa L. Williamson Miller, and his only child Raymond Miller, Jr. He was also preceded in death by a sister and three brothers, including two younger twins – Alfred and Arthur.
Mr. Miller leaves to cherish a nephew, Mr. Mark Waldrum of Mt. Airy, Maryland, three sisters in laws, Gertrude W. Martin and Pauline W. Hairston both of Greensboro North Carolina; Ida Miller of Philadelphia, PA.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A graveside service for Mr. Raymond Edward Miller, Sr will be Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 1:00 pm Pearson Chapel AME Church Cemetery.
