Eden, NC- Rebecca Mae Johnson, a beloved member of the community, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2023, as she transitioned from life to eternal rest. She was born on November 8, 1947, in Axton, VA, and her life's journey took her to various places, leaving an indelible mark on the lives she touched.
Rebecca originally hailed from Axton, VA, and later moved to North Carolina after marrying. She dedicated many years of her life to the textile industry, showcasing her unwavering work ethic and dedication. However, her heart led her to a new path, where she provided her nurturing care in the daycare and group home settings, impacting the lives of many with her kindness.
Her spiritual home was Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where her faith was a guiding light. Rebecca's memory will forever be cherished by her two loving daughters, Reba Lindsey of Eden, NC, and Penny Lindsey of Virginia Beach, VA. She also leaves behind a close-knit family, including her siblings: Ardell Manns (Jesse), Jack Boyd (Linda), Gina Nicholson (Danny), Dennis Boyd (Janice), William Boyd (Judy), Clifton Boyd (Lisa), and Priscilla Artis (Alvin). In addition to her siblings, Rebecca is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and close family friends.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Adele Boyd, and her brother, Hodges Lee Boyd (Geneva). Her memory will continue to shine through the stories and shared experiences of those she leaves behind.
A public viewing to pay respects will take place at Fulton-Walton Memorial Chapel, 417 Price St., Eden, NC, on Saturday, October 21st, from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on October 22, 2023, at 2:00 pm at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Axton, VA, with a family visitation starting at 1:30 pm. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In honor of Rebecca's memory, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Barry L. Joyce Local Cancer Support Fund in Madison, NC, or Pandas Fight Against Cancer in Virginia Beach, VA. Your support will help carry on her legacy of caring and compassion.
