Milton, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mrs. Shirley Jean Johnson Scott, of 2600 N. Hwy 57, Milton, North Carolina, who departed her life on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 due to an automobile accident.

Mrs. Shirley Jean Johnson Scott was the fifth child born to the late Ivery Johnson and Sue Hughes Johnson on May 10, 1959 in Danville , Virginia.  She was affectionately known as “Grownie”.

Shirley attended and graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School in the “Class of 1977”.  She was an employee for many years at Collins & Aikman, in Roxboro, North Carolina.

What do you remember about Shirley?  Shirley was a good wife and a good mother.  She was an excellent sister, aunt and friend.  Shirley was generous, loving and very friendly.  Her favorite places to go was Dollar General, Piggly Wiggly, and The End Store (LOL).  Shirley loved to drive; she was always going somewhere.  Shirley would go out of her way to help anybody that was in need.  Shirley loved people and it was evident in the life that she lived. Shirley was a member of Macedonia AME Church in Milton, North Carolina.  During the COVID-19 Pandemic, she frequently attended Zion Christian Center where her brother Danny Johnson is the Pastor.

In addition to Shirley’s parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Scott; her sister, Barbara “Duck” Johnson, her brother, Ivey “Wolf” Hughes; and one sister in law, Denise Johnson.

Mrs. Shirley Jean Johnson Scott leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Antonio Lamont Johnson; seven siblings, Burnett Hughes of Milton, North Carolina; William Hughes of Semora, North Carolina; Sallie Johnson of Blairs, Virginia; Samuel Johnson of Pelham, North Carolina; Mary Hughes of Raleigh, North Carolina; John Johnson of Milton, North Carolina; and Danny Johnson (Teresa) of Roxboro, North Carolina; several aunts; one uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and devoted friends.
